Filmmakers on television

What good examples are there of established filmmakers turning to television production (for creative rather than financial reasons, I suppose)? I'm thinking of David Lynch doing Twin Peaks and On The Air (and that documentary series - "American Dreams"?), also Godard doing stuff for French and British tv.

Lars Von Trier's "Riget" is a pretty decent one. Can't vouch for the American version ("Kingdom Hospital")

robert altman's done a bit of TV work (tanner 88 and some one-off productions) although he also started in television, so i don't know if that counts.

also, spike lee (w/ sucker free city).

Fassbinder did a an interesting Matrix precursor called World on a Wire for television. In fact, I think Berlin Alexanderplatz was made for television, and maybe some others.

And yeah, Riget/ The Kingdom and the Alan Clarke stuff.

Michael Mann- Spearheaded "Miami Vice" & "Crime Story" (directed & wrote episodes as well), not mention the pilot "LA Takedown" which would later get re-worked as "Heat"
