ive seen those! i like my pretentious extravaganzas better when they have a big budget, so brazil wins. also there is more brazil in "brazil" than japan in "japon".

I've only seen Brazil, but if this is indication that Japon is like Brazil (which I have been looking for) then I am going to have to check this out

Japon didn't quite work for me, but I should probably see it again. I do really want to see Carlos Reygadas's new film - hopefully it's going to play somewhere out here next month! I loved Brazil as a teenager, but probably watched it too many times back then - haven't seen it in at least ten years, and am not sure I want to see it again anytime soon. I'll admit though - yesterday I got a kick out of seeing Jonathan Pryce playing the king of England in The New Wolrd.

Los Angeles - can't find out if it's opening up down here or not (one would think yes if it is in SF). I see Tartan has picked it up, so it should get a DVD release before long. The clips I've seen (on allocine?) looked really interesting - admittedly I'm a Tarkovsky fanatic.
