Any movie that more or less dispenses with plot in order to follow a somewhat aimless journey.

Like The Passenger.

What about those Wim Wenders movies set in America, Alice In The Cities and so on?

Redd Harvest (Ken L), Friday, 27 January 2006 00:46 (nineteen years ago)

More importantly, when the fuck are those Wim Wenders movies going to come out on DVD?

Jeff LeVine (Jeff LeVine), Friday, 27 January 2006 01:01 (nineteen years ago)

My video store has Kings Of The Road on VHS.

phantasy bear (nordicskilla), Friday, 27 January 2006 16:40 (nineteen years ago)

mine too; i've only viewed it on VHS. anything shot by robby muller begs be seen on film, so i hope i someday have the chance. wenders' early stuff seems really ripe for revival -- who has the rights to it?

Too much plot for Cannonball Run? How about Cannonball Run II?

Powwow Highway - although the journey's not all that aimless

I like the short ... it may have been on PBS' POV about 10 years ago... that covers an entire cross-country road trip and ends with the driver jumping out of the car and splashing in the Pacific surf in SF. forgot the darned title...

bonus haiku:

There's lots of movies
that go aimless to the end
but I liked Broken Flowers

Another "Kinda": Scarecrow

Chairman Doinel (Charles McCain), Monday, 12 June 2006 15:28 (nineteen years ago)

three years pass...

OMG, I Travel Because I Have To, I Come Back Because I Love You a new Brazilian movie, has got to be the purest road movie EVER. If you get the the chance to see it, do!

Roomful of Moogs (C. Grisso/McCain), Monday, 3 May 2010 19:48 (fifteen years ago)

Pretty much my favourite genre...Wenders for sure; he made at least three or four of them. Scarecrow, Harry & Tonto, The Straight Story, Five Easy Pieces (sort of, for some of it), Wild Strawberries (ditto), Flirting with Disaster, The Daytrippers, Weekend, Thelma & Louise (the fugitive film being something of a subgenre of the road film--the journey does have an aim, though), Something Wild...I know I'm missing a bunch of movies I like a lot.
