I couldn't find a thread about this so I've taken it upon myself to make one.

I'd like to know if anyone else has heard anything about the proposed remake of 'The Wicker Man' set to start filming in July. Apparently, it will star Nicolas Cage as Sergeant Howie (who is not a virgin in the new version), who now has a killer allergy to bees (killer bees, no less); Lord Summerisle has been replaced by LADY Summerisle, and the whole community has been transplanted to Florida (!?) and rewritten as a matriarchal society descended from the first Pilgrims (!?!?). Director Robin Hardy is said to be angry and bewildered. I am not making this up. WTFOMGLOL and so on.

I mean, it's not as though it's any news that Hollywood's remake/sequel/adaptation-to-original-film ratio has gotten all out of whack recently, but this is just mean-spirited. I mean, killer bees? For Pete's sake. Someone please tell me this is just a hilarious joke.

I like Wicker, but it's ludicrously overcelebrated. Britt Ekland, sooo convincing as an isolated Druid chick.

You know the remake is by Mormon nasty Neil LaBute, right? At least it'll have a point of view ... Remakes should change as many details as possible (eg, The Fly).

That is a good point. But the Cage casting still seems a little problematic.
