Will probably try to catch a few of these since I missed most of them first time around. "Wayward Cloud" looks really good - and the description reminds me "The Hole."

Has anybody seen it (or the others)? Not too sure which ones I should focus on since quite a few look good. It doesn't help that they all only screen on one day.

If you missed at the NYFF (or even if you didn't), SEE THE SUN!

Ranking what I've seen:
1. The Sun
2. L'Intrus
3. Memories of Murder
4. Cafe Lumiere
5. Land of the Dead
6. Funny Ha-Ha
7. Three Times

All of them are great with the exception maybe of Three Times, but that's only because it seemed a little run-of-the-mill for Hou (save the middle section). It also opens at the IFC Center, like, next week.

Thanks, I may do. I often like Sokurov but saw the Hitler and Lenin films he did and didn't think they were very strong.

I was really interested in "Three Times" but it's true that Hou can range from amazing to uninspired. I loved "Cafe Lumiere" a lot so was hoping for good things from "Three Times."

I loved the middle (silent movie) third of Three Times, not the rest. The Intruder is a mighty puzzle, but will def suffer on TV. I was disappointed in Lumiere too, so I'd say Land of the Dead is the best I've seen in the series. Memories of Murder, Funny Ha Ha are both worth renting. I'm seeing the Tsai for sure, and eager to see Bujalski's new one but given there's one show I think advance tix are advisable.

Yeah, I'm def. going to the Tsai and Bujalski and catching The Sun again.

Yeah Lumiere wasn't Hou's best, but wow, I thought it was a lot better than his last few. But I've talked to more people that were ambivalent than weren't. Princess Raccoon looks like it could be a real surprise, too.

The Tsai looks sorta looks like it combines just about everything that's ever been in one of his movies.

The Tsai was pretty over the top. I don't think it's as good as his best, but I'm still a fan. The musical sequences were my favorite parts, especially the one in the bathroom where Kang is a giant penis. Def worth seeing as I can't quite think of anything similar, save for his own films, but even there this was departure.

Not as super as the last three -- mostly cuz that relentlessly grim final two reels don't quite fit with what came (ahem) before -- but also has more belly laughs than his other movies. I liked the melon-parasol 'number' best.

Mutual Appreciation was cute but overlong, and I didn't feel as much was at stake as in FHaHa.
