High on the list of acknowledged masters who aren't for me. Pat Garrett for the music, Alfredo Griffin for camp, Straw Dogs for a partially nude Susan George and lots of cool looking math scrawled all over a blackboard. So Straw Dogs.

Between The Wild Bunch and Ride The High Country (the original Brokeback Mountain gay cowboys), but I love much of The Ballad of Cable Hogue and enough of Pat Garrett.

man I am curious to hear what Morbs thinks. I used to love Peck but Cable Hogue really stunk up the joint for me - I loved Straw Dogs like every death rock kid on the planet, Wild Bunch is brilliant of course but the Killer Elite -- like, I don't remember anything about it but I sure do remember thinking "this kicks ass"

whoa -- how did Cable Hogue do that?! At worst it's rambling, but still so damn amiable -- it's like Peckinpah doing Altman.

I have this book which has great essays on each of his films. In regards to The Killer Elite the writer makes an argument that it is really a film about filmaking ala Day for Night or The Player, with the crucial difference that instead of setting a terrible film inside a story about working on the lot/set, Peckinpah & co. just made a feature-length version of "the bad film within the film".

Cross of Iron worth watching?

cross of iron is a weird movie. Definitely pretty harsh and has a particularly surreal carnivalesque absurdity of war ending.

coburn is good, as is schell. I don't remember much of the plot but its anything but generic. Strange movie.

Noon Wine appears in The Killer Elite Blu-Ray.

I am watching The Killer Elite right now.

Did not like Straw Dogs. Sort of like Death Wish in the countryside but with artistic pretensions.

tKE is a funny mix so far: subtle agonies&quiddities of toxic masculinity solo and in gangs PLUS thudding do-you-see ironies re the ruthless crappiness pf bureaucracies PLUS high-end idealisation of the nobility and healing powers of culturally appropriated martial arts

duvall good, caan good, think the last film i watched partially set in san francisco was the hulk

bohemian san francisco as mise en scene is reminding me of armistead maupin; the airport ninja-assassin attack scene was more like airplane

weirdly pleased to discover that burt young (who plays mac) is a painter as well as an actor

the suisun bay reserve fleet scenes are (a) kind of amazing, as an idea for a setting*, and (b) a whole bunch of clumsily shot, culturally goofy ninja stupidness

*actually the only thing i remember from the last time i saw this, maybe 35 years ago?

i watched 'alfredo garcia' its amazingly uncinematic & I mean that positively; I enjoyed a lot of it - would still vote straw dogs here def

i would think Alfredo Garcia would win this on a repoll but the turnout on the original has me wondering where the current popular reassessment of his works has leveled out at.

Can't remember if I voted but for me it's The Wild Bunch followed by Ride the High Country. I kind of like Straw Dogs but just the idea of it sort of creeps me out.

to this day my main memory of Pat Garrett is a scene where Dylan's Alias is naming canned goods in the background.

Pat Garrett was my favorite back in the day but now I don't remember much about it... it's been at least 25 years since I saw most of these. Nowadays I'd be most interested in revisiting High Country and Major Dundee.
