Last week of July. yoink!

I'll see all of them except Andrei Rublev, which I just saw on the big screen last month when I was abroad but but lost a substantial amount of dialogue in the foreign translation.

Actually, I don't really like Zerkalo all that much, either.

Zerkalo is difficult but probably his "masterpiece" - it's extremely personal and maintains the beuaty and intensity of his other works, though the timeline is confusing and to non-russians (like myself) i had to read a bit about the context to fully appreciate it.

why is Stalker one of my favorite films? i guess it's because it works for me as a haunting, mystical science-fiction story, and it also works on a philosophical level. even if you don't dig the philosophy, the aesthetics alone are stunning - i love the idea of a 'Zone' and this future where everything is broken and destroyed, and physical transformations occur, spatial geometry is twisted, etc. the novel it's based on, 'roadside picnic', is a lot different - more down to earth and gritty, but still very fun.

Art cinema near me is showing all his films this month. I’ve seen them a lot, but never on the big screen, so willl probably go through. Not sure if I’ll see them all or not, though. I only watched Nostalghia and the Sacrifice once, I think, and was kind of lukewarm on them.

Yeah - a couple of them (nostalghia and sacrifice) say theyre 4k restoration, but I dunno quite what that means. Either way, I haven’t seen them at the cinema, so will probably try to go.

They’ve both had new 4K scans and grades under the supervision of the cinematographer - Kino put them out as UHDs recently.

Been really enjoying the season. I know all the films pretty well, but it’s good to see them in a cinema. Was Stalker tonight, and it was the busiest so far - even then about 2/3 full, which is surprising to me.
