because it's an old-timey movie that was shown on TV more than most back in the day and was easy to get- even if you were usually a touch B&W-phobic- because it had Marilyn Monroe and the cartoonish Roaring Twenties setting. Also known star Tony Curtis doing his imo of other known star Cary Grant, although you didn't have to understand the details of this at the time, the same way you could enjoy bits of borrowed business in old cartoons without knowing their origins in even older full-length films.
