Definitely going to see:

The Lost Weekend
Sunset Blvd.
Seven Year Itch / Kiss Me, Stupid
Stalag 17
The Apartment
Irma la Douce
Sabrina

I've seen Double Indemnity and Some Like it Hot (best movie ever). Any other ones I shouldn't miss? I'm mainly just going by their reputation.

I still don't understand the concept of "Some Like It Hot" as "best movie ever".

I need to rewatch Sunset Blvd. I don't really remember what it's like. And I went through all the bother of downloading it...

"the concept," as far as i can tell, appears to have something to do with some people believing it is the best movie ever.

So it really is circular like that? It is that it is?

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 17:06 (nineteen years ago)

It's in the part of the Symposium that gets elided over during the "later that night..." dissolve.

I break my silence to say:
because it's an old-timey movie that was shown on TV more than most back in the day and was easy to get- even if you were usually a touch B&W-phobic- because it had Marilyn Monroe and the cartoonish Roaring Twenties setting. Also known star Tony Curtis doing his imo of other known star Cary Grant, although you didn't have to understand the details of this at the time, the same way you could enjoy bits of borrowed business in old cartoons without knowing their origins in even older full-length films.

And now I grow weary and return to my chambers to rest from my labors.
