I'm pretty sure that's still the most successful movie song, though. Assuming that's what "movie song" means.

I am aware of its provenance, yes. But Dolly's version isn't as knee-slappingly hysterical.

wouldn't the best-selling song that originated in a movie still be "White Christmas," tho? did Whitney the Human Car Alarm top that?

Wiki says: "It went on to sell over four million copies in the U.S. and another six million worldwide, making it the third best-selling single in the world, the second best selling single in the modern era (after Elton John's Candle in the Wind 1997), the biggest selling commercial single of all time, the biggest selling single by a female artist, and the biggest selling non-charity single. [...] The strength of the single also pushed the soundtrack album for The Bodyguard to the number one position for twenty weeks, and it became the best-selling soundtrack of all time (with over thirty-seven million copies sold worldwide)."

But, yes, the song beating Candle in the Wind is White Christmas, which is "the only single in history with three separate runs at the top of the U.S. charts. Eventually, Crosby's "White Christmas" single sold more than thirty million copies. The Guinness Book of World Records currently lists the song as a 100-million seller (this encompassing all versions of the song, including on albums)."

I had thought it finally trounced "White Christmas" but I suppose not!
