Inland Empire

David Lynch's latest, wretchedly underdistributed, all digital flick. Thoughts?

Briefly:

1. In many ways this was the scariest movie I have ever seen. The theatre expereince was akin to a bad acid trip.

2. What Mulholland Drive is to Hollywood the business, Inland Empire is to Hollywood the city?

3. Polish prostitute folktale subtext...why?

4. Rabbits?

Cheese comes FROM milk...

I'm talked out on it for now. Having never had the proverbial acid trip, nightmare will do.

IE is still (on one level) about the biz.

Inland Empire is not a psychedelic film

I blogged some of my reflections (the article-in-progress they are drawn from spirals ever outward):

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

to respond directly:
1. scary, hopeful, intense.
2. I don't agree, but I'm not sure that I really disagree, either.
3. I obliquely address some aspects of the Folktale thing in the posts linked above. as for prostitution, it's Lynch reflecting further on the role of women (and maybe all actors) in Hollywood.
4. Yes. Rabbits. (just to fuck with you).

also, its underdistributed because DL is distributing it himself.
