Know Of A Cool LA Area Location With Visual Appeal

I'm writing a screenplay in which a character will visit a real, recognizable film location--for the thrill, romance of being there.

Can someone think of a place not too far from LA that might look interesting, be familar to many people and--if possible--allow for some kind of stunt? Thanks.
