I'm reviving this old chestnut...I randomly generate ten films from a masterlist, and we chat about them.

1. Hearts and Minds
2. The Rose
3. The Castle
4. Zorba the Greek
5. Pi
6. The Private Life of Henry VIII
7. Manon of the Spring
8. Society
9. Kings Row
10. Gorilla Bathes at Noon

I pick Pi first because it's the only one I've seen. I personally love it; and I showed it to my 12 year old brother and he loves it too.

Hearts and Minds - kinda blah, as I remember. I mean, it's massively historically impt, since there are lots of govt heads discussing Vietnam and its mistakes. But while it is well-worth watching, I didn't feel like I learned anything I didn't already know.

Pi - the technique is interesting, but I thought the Kabbalist stuff rather overrated. Solid casting and an interesting twist on the genre, filtered through Tetsuo: The Iron Man.

We really should talk about Deep Red or Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie.

Hey, I'll generate another 10 in a few days. :) Have anything to say about any of these?

I don't think I ever need to hear the theme song to "The Rose" again.

The Castle - this was playing at the same time Star Wars episode 1 came out. they are about equal in quality i.e. it is amazingly awful.

pi - as a math minor, the BS numerology ticked me off. otherwise, a slight eraserhead ripoff.

I've seen Kings Row. Reagan quite OK, Bob Cummings insufferable.
