I won't try to justify unless pressed. (I'm not a very convincing writer.)

Gods and Monsters (Condon, 1998) [Perfect!]
A Scanner Darkly (Linklater, 2006) [Too soon?]
Husbands (Cassevets, 1970) [His best film!]

Unbreakable (2000, Shyamalan)

did i ever mention on here the student luncheon i attended with shyamalan? someone asked how he responded to negative reviews and he gave the "WHY DONT THEY A MOVIE AND THEN I'LL REVIEW IT" response. ugh.

The Cell -- absolutely gorgeous cinematography; very Quay/Witkinesque at times

Drowning Mona -- should certainly be a cult classic but sadly has been completely forgotten. very quirky humor (as typical for something written by Danny DeVito)

Jacob's Ladder -- one of the scariest films ever produced and extremely-accurately nightmarish
