previews

I've come to the point where I stick my fingers in my ears , close my eyes and say "la la la la la" whenever a preview for a movie I want to see comes up on the screen. I've had too many movies spoiled from Previews, and I really like not knowing anything about a movie when I sit down to see it. That way there are no predetermine opinions on the movie. And if a movie is spoiled I usually wait a while to see it so I forget that it was spoiled. How do you feel about entering a movie with a knowledge of it beforehand?

That Italian Job trailer is particularly bad for that. And the What Lies Beneath trailer kind of fucked the movie.

A lot of people told ne the trailer for the Score runied it, I may have seen it, but I've forgotten it by now.

The Score didn't need any help in that department.

Absolutely agree here, I am so rabidly anti-spoiler that I don't even watch promos for TV series, and I have a difficult time getting myself to reading blurbs on the back covers of books. I tend to operate under the belief that what I understand of a piece should be informed solely by that piece, a philosophy that applies not just to plot but the style and aesthetic of a piece.

And the T3 trailer just blew its entire load right there.

Fuck fuck fuck fuck. I just watched the preview for An Affair to Remember on my DVD and it gave away the fucking ending. Fuck fuck fuck fuck. It just ruined the movie for me. I'm furious!

I feel violated.

Yeah...the purpose of a preview is to draw people in, so the people who cobble together these things usually just pick the most visually impressive bits or dramatic/memorable snippets of dialogue, with little to no concern over spoiling the movie. Annoying as hell.

I'm trying to think of previews with no footage from the movie. Three come to mind: This Is Spinal Tap (the hilarious "Cheese Rolling" preview), Comedian ("In a world..."), and Pink Flamingos (street interviews with people who had just seen the movie). All three are GREAT...there should be more previews as good as those.

Yeah, I mean as Amateurist mentioned on another thread, a good enough movie will hold its own regardless of what you know about it, which is fine in theory, but giveaway trailers still drive me crazy. I especially hate the ones that more or less summarize the entire movie, or the first two acts (Bourne Identity for example).

despite, Marlon Brando's presence (any tub from the retirement home could have acted as well, and less perversly), I thought the Score was great! DeNiro finally played an actual human being with a myriad of emotions!
