Hanley still shows up from time to time I think. He was usually a bit obtuse, but not as much as that.

The whole collection there is pretty bad.

All I really remember about hanley & ally's old-skool blether is that he used to call her a tart all the time and eventually she got pissed about it and told him to stop. I don't remember any of it making much sense, even at the time.

Not quite that long ago. I do remember some posting of this gag-worthy standard from my early days, though.

I suspect a lot of the "twee"/"quirky" style was due to people knowing each other and having a certain style of interaction from a.m.a. TBH it doesn't really bother me that much, it never has done.

Really, a lot of this stuff is just like aim chats from years ago that have been backed up FOREVER AND EVER by some accident of history. It kind of made sense at the time, but in retrospect it's like wtf were these people even trying to say?

The one I remember the best was before DG started ILE, I think it was what led to ILE getting started - there was a house party in NYC, which ally was at, maybe ethan was there, or some dude who hasn't posted here for years, or something. There was this great long conversation about the party that went on and on and on. At the time, reading it as it went down, it was really funny & snappy. Probably if you read it now it would be, again, wtf are these people even on about.

I think the really early years get a bad rep, unfairly. It's easy to pick out the shitty stuff, and some people seem to have this weird agenda for doing that, but there was a lot of good stuff, if there hadn't been, dobody would have stuck around.

I've never been a part of "the old days were better" brigade because the old days were exactly like they are now with slightly different syntax and fewer splinter boards. The tribalization/cliqueishness has always existed; it was just easier to ignore because it was a smaller group of people. Also, some people didn't know each other as well then and didn't realize that they couldn't really stand each other.
