I saw his show at SFMOMA (and liked it) and know some people that knew him. He went to my school. I didn't know/had forgotten about the movie. Makes me sort of hate Gus Van Sant (I already hate Ellis).

I know it's sort of morbid, but I do not think he would be spoken about in quite the same way if he were alive. His work is definitely beautiful but I have this suspicion that it is sort of straining to be conceptual too.

It was shot at 1/2 speed or something, and practiced several times before the shoot. I haven't watched online so I have no idea how much you can hear, but in a theater the sound design is particularly amazing (and VERY much designed, although in a good way)

Haha, I just get scared of the anti-crit 'proper philosophers' that sometimes pop up on ilx. Although half of my undergrad was 'proper philosophy' anyway, so theoretically I shouldn't be so scared.
Art theory sounds cool - I found it a bit odd doing a dissertation on an artist as it's not really my field, but Porter's so intermedial that it comes as part of a much wider package.
