An existence after this one, yes.

the feeling is surreal (snoball), Saturday, 3 March 2012 18:29 (thirteen years ago)

No. I do not believe in an afterlife at all.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Saturday, 3 March 2012 18:32 (thirteen years ago)

heaven is a place on earth

kim tim jim investor (harbl), Saturday, 3 March 2012 18:41 (thirteen years ago)

could be a continued consciousness, continued spirit, reincarnation, a castle in the clouds with Buddy Holly and Richie Valens...

beachville, Saturday, 3 March 2012 18:42 (thirteen years ago)

I believe in this:

"a castle in the clouds with Buddy Holly and Richie Valens..."

don't

Streep? That's where I'm a-striking! (darraghmac), Saturday, 3 March 2012 18:57 (thirteen years ago)

What if you believe in recycling / reincarnation / some other alternate not-heaven-afterlife but not-specific-no either option?

White Chocolate Cheesecake, Saturday, 3 March 2012 19:05 (thirteen years ago)

Anything other than it being all over when you flatline, WCC! The power of interpretation is yours.

beachville, Saturday, 3 March 2012 19:07 (thirteen years ago)

Yes, but it depends what you mean by "over." Because I don't think that they you-ness of you will carry on after death in any recognisable form, but it's absurd to think that we don't get recycled like every other form of matter and energy in the universe.

White Chocolate Cheesecake, Saturday, 3 March 2012 19:10 (thirteen years ago)

I hate dichotomies. I will always vote "other" if possibly given the option, and kinda resent it when I don't get an "other" option. ;_;

White Chocolate Cheesecake, Saturday, 3 March 2012 19:10 (thirteen years ago)

gonna take that as a yes

myself: nah

bron paul (k3vin k.), Saturday, 3 March 2012 19:14 (thirteen years ago)

sleeping is a kind of death; you're pretty much reborn every day.

Philip Nunez, Saturday, 3 March 2012 19:17 (thirteen years ago)

No. I do not believe in an afterlife at all.

See, this is the problem. If you do not provide an answer which is not yes, and not no, then someone always comes along and decides for you that it is a yes (with the added bonus of projecting their interpretations of what they think you believe.) It imposes strictures and structures.

Anyway I'm not actually bored enough to get into an argument about this, even though I am very, very, very bored right now.

White Chocolate Cheesecake, Saturday, 3 March 2012 19:27 (thirteen years ago)

it's absurd to think that we don't get recycled like every other form of matter and energy in the universe.

well yeah, ultimately the matter that makes up your body will still be around in the Universe, but are you saying the physical principle of matter & energy being recycled extends to abstract conceptual things like the self or the soul?

Big Mr. Guess U.S.A. Champion (crüt), Saturday, 3 March 2012 19:29 (thirteen years ago)

Because I don't think that they you-ness of you will carry on after death in any recognisable form

White Chocolate Cheesecake, Saturday, 3 March 2012 19:31 (thirteen years ago)

ah, ok. sorry to be dense.

Big Mr. Guess U.S.A. Champion (crüt), Saturday, 3 March 2012 19:31 (thirteen years ago)

so then what did you mean by "we"

bron paul (k3vin k.), Saturday, 3 March 2012 19:32 (thirteen years ago)

you don't have to believe in the supernatural to believe in the inevitability of resurrection technology.

i believe the SOUL is ETERNAL

McCrisco/Cocaine (rip van wanko), Tuesday, 6 March 2012 01:14 (thirteen years ago)

i hope there is no heaven, think i read this in a comic or something but i feel like dying and going to heaven would be like waking up from one of those dreams where you live out a whole day in painstaking detail, only to find that you were asleep the whole time and have to do it all over again

flopson, Tuesday, 6 March 2012 01:51 (thirteen years ago)

that wasn't heaven, that was the last season of LOST

Philip Nunez, Tuesday, 6 March 2012 01:53 (thirteen years ago)

Not at all

Thu'um gang (jjjusten), Tuesday, 6 March 2012 01:54 (thirteen years ago)

No, but, judging from the amount of time I've spent at the graveside of one of my family members "speaking" with her, the idea of the afterlife must still have some grip on my imagination.

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

Was really hoping more afterlife-believers would open up about this!

beachville, Thursday, 8 March 2012 00:07 (thirteen years ago)

I imaghine most people are more like "we dont know either way" maybe? I know I am.

Medical Dance Crab With Lesson (Trayce), Thursday, 8 March 2012 00:12 (thirteen years ago)

Oh man, that would be a cop-out. Did you vote "yes" Trayce?

beachville, Thursday, 8 March 2012 00:15 (thirteen years ago)

maybe this should go in the "is it racist" thread but there's a bit in michael lewis's new book about irish men believing in fairies, how most of them will claim not to, but if they come across a fairy circle, they won't disturb it, which basically counts as believing in fairies.

Philip Nunez, Thursday, 8 March 2012 00:22 (thirteen years ago)

whooooops, missed this poll, but add another mark in the NOOOoooooo column. even if there was a god, it wouldn't want people to party for eternity in heaven. it would get bored after 6 trillion years and turn everyone into doorknobs or something.

this is my receipt for your receipt (Z S), Thursday, 8 March 2012 00:32 (thirteen years ago)

firm NO + don't trust anyone who does.

Your Ample Girth Does Intimidate (Matt P), Thursday, 8 March 2012 00:36 (thirteen years ago)

I didnt vote cuz I really couldnt get with a yes no answer tbh! :(

Medical Dance Crab With Lesson (Trayce), Thursday, 8 March 2012 03:56 (thirteen years ago)

To elaborate: its probably no, but I dont like that idea? If that makes sense. Heaven's bunk, but ceasing to exist gives me great heartache.

Medical Dance Crab With Lesson (Trayce), Thursday, 8 March 2012 03:57 (thirteen years ago)

ALSO MAYBE ALREADY WE ARE ALL DOORKNOBS DID U CONTEMPLATE THAT

Medical Dance Crab With Lesson (Trayce), Thursday, 8 March 2012 03:58 (thirteen years ago)

I am 3/4 of a doorknob

this is my receipt for your receipt (Z S), Thursday, 8 March 2012 04:54 (thirteen years ago)

For some reason I now have "shoehorn with teeth" by TMBG in my head.

Medical Dance Crab With Lesson (Trayce), Thursday, 8 March 2012 05:03 (thirteen years ago)

whatever happened to a. nairn

mookieproof, Thursday, 8 March 2012 05:13 (thirteen years ago)

I have wondered that in the past. He was inscrutable, which I admired in a frustrated way, like I do geir.
