Katich or Love?

Love made a ton last time he strode out for Australia, has a good temperament (as shown in both innings of his debut Test), and is a vastly more experienced cricketer.

Katich has a wider range of strokes, is a better player of spin bowling, and can bowl a bit himself.

So who gets the Gabba gig?

Love has more experience at the Gabba in particular, as well as generally.

Katich is a better all-round player (IMO).

I'd give it to Katich. But what would I know?

Katich at the moment, for the balance of the side. In fact I would have Katich and Hogg, omitting MacGill, but I don't expect too many of you to agree with that.

I know many of you want to be rid of SRW right away, but I don't think that will happen (and I hope it does not happen). However, even if things go his way all the way, there is little doubt that he will retire after India ... and Love needs to know that he remains a leading contender for that spot.

Lehmann is out of the frame altogether at the moment; no recent first class runs on the board and uncertain fitness.

two weeks pass...
Pardon my French, but Love is shite. Big deal, he made a ton against the Bangers. So could you and I my friends. Give Dogscratch the gig.

I'll have to go for Dogscratch as well, if only for the fact that he can tweek a few if need be.

Love is a no.3 bat who they would want to bat down the order as he has done in his previous tests. No. 6 doesn't suit him, and they don't want to move Punter, Marto or Tugga to accommodate him. Katich is more of a middle-order bat and is better suited to 6.

ahem...hodge??

Hodge certainly merits consideration on form, but has left his run a bit late - he happened to have one of his poorer seasons around the time a test batting spot was opening up IIRC.

"ahem...hodge??"

Come on Horrie...bloody Vixens in the test team? Get real.

Hodge is having a great season, but 1) he has only just joined the queue, and therefore 2) he is at the back thereof.

His best bet might be to wait for some old codger to pack it in, so he can crack a spot as the 'golf course tester' in a touring party. Shame there's no openings likely to come that way any time soon.
