One day cricket C/D?

Hands up all those that have had enough of the VB series already? Boring contrived carp the lot of it. My D grade side could probabably beat ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZimbots and watching Bevan and Martyn is making me age at an alarming rate.

I hate to have to admit this, but I actually watched Flip play tennis last night instead of watching this tired old format that was stale ten years ago. So, what do you think Mike?

regards,

REB

PS - Gillys excepted.

I think it could do with a revamp.
I guess the main thing is that the outcome means very little. I'm sure that the patrons at the ground were a bit more excited, it being a sort-of tribute game to Hooksey.

Any game affected by rain ain't really going to be so exciting either. I also think the fact that Australia always looked like they were going to win it, and still managed to despite losing 7/70 meant the victory was a little hollow as well.

I kinda support the 2x25 over innings idea for ODIs. Worth a go, anyway.

bring back Australia 'A'!

I liked the Hookesy tribute that went to air at the end of the game, excepting Eddie of course ...

The fact that REB made the standard 'Gilly Exception' is significant. The problem is, we're 3 + 1/2 years from the next Gilly. Other sports have unending year-round circuits (such as tennis and golf) but each event is always significant in terms of the next 'major', which is never more than a few months away.

Tinkering at the edges of the rules would do nothing. Making major changes to the format would make the games even less relevant to a WC which would still play under the old format.

Aus Open Tennis or ODIous cricket? Give me the tennis any time, even if it's 'Spud' Kafelnikov v 'Sandshoe Face' Lendl, and I have never felt any need to apologise or justify.

Ultimately, domestic ODI cricket just does not matter to me, and I'm not so precious as to 'expect' TGW to have his knickers in a permanent knot about that. He gets his TV audiences, he gets the mob through the gates. They are the people whose opinion he should be worried about.

TGW: The Great Warthog, Kerry Francis Bullmore Packer. Don't blame me for that one, blame Bob Ellis.

I, too, watched the tennis. Of course, I taped the ODI . . . .

And the Hookesy tribute. Now, if I can just edit Eddie out of it . . .

Could cricket follow the example of soccer with regards to major tournaments?

Could we have regional competition challenges (Asian, Atlantic, Southern Hemisphere) say every two years, or a World Cricket Youth Cup?

The ICC Knock-out really means nothing, so maybe more ODI ain't the answer.
Personally I like the idea of the Asian Test Championship every now and again. A similar thing could be attempted with other regions.

Yesterday's MODI was one of the dullest I've seen.
