Oh, shit.

Memo Trev: Don't even THINK about McGrath as a replacement!

Kaspa announcement

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:02 (twenty-one years ago)

please not Ferny!

Cleavy, Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Cripes. This is bad news, how's your bowling form Frederick?

regards,

REB

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Unfortunately only just better than MacDill's. And I'm older than Steve Waugh.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm trying to remain optimistic about this Test and the rest of the series, drawing inspiration from this match. Let's hope Warney can reproduce those heroics (and that the batsmen can give him something to bowl at in the second dig).

ojitarian (ojitarian), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Two wickets for 20 runs today, one each to Warne and MacDill (no 9, for a duck).

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:46 (twenty-one years ago)

If Kasper can't bowl in the second innings (assuming there is one), does that mean Martyn or Symonds will be opening the bowling? Sweet Zombie Jesus.

ojitarian (ojitarian), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 05:57 (twenty-one years ago)

There you go Marge, you knock TV and it gives you something back. I think you owe someone an a apology...

regards,

HOMER

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 06:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't see SL needing to bat long enough in the second innings for our bowling resources (or lack thereof) to make any difference.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 06:04 (twenty-one years ago)

True Fred. If only the Aussies hadn't batted like millionaires in the first dig...

ojitarian (ojitarian), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 06:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Warne's coming of age that match, oj.

Australia won the toss and set out to make 150 before lunch and demoralise MuMu and the Lanakans. If it worked Australia had the series. Obviously didn't work.

Maybe next time they win the toss the plan can be to still be batting at the end of the first day.

powwow (powwow), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 07:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Incidentally Fred, I totally agree about not flying pig out. His form in the moo cow cup did not warrent immediate inclusion into the team. To pick him now would be to repeat the mistake they made with Lee during the summer.

Maybe they can send some of the blokes that should have been in the squad in the first place, i,e Haurwitz and Hogg. To go to Sri Lanka with only two spinners -both right handed legspinners- was maddness.

Hoggie and HOrrie might be ordinary but they are the best we have at the moment, behind Macgilla and Warne.

powwow (powwow), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 07:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Pick Whitey...

Hauritz shouldn't be anywhere near the Test team at the moment, he averaged close to 70 this year.

Ross (Ross), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 07:40 (twenty-one years ago)

That's it pick another legspinner.
Hauritz average is not that bad this season.
What's Collin Miller doing these days?

powwow (powwow), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 07:50 (twenty-one years ago)

White's ave wouldn't be that hot either.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 07:59 (twenty-one years ago)

We need a pace bowler, like for like, only not as crap as Blee. Another sozzie? Or someone more used to a spinner's pitch?

Rofe/Tait/Cleary or Fern. That's about it, unless they decide Watson's form is good enough and that's not likely.

tailender (tailender), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 10:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Out of the three Sozzie quicks I would say only Rofe would be ready for Test cricket, and I can't see him being any more effective than any other fast bowler we have. Cleary has had an OK season and Tait is an exciting prospect (and would even up the chucker quotient) but the decks won't suit him at all.

Bracken has done well in one-dayers in India so might be worth a go.

No other spinners in Australia are worth a mention at the moment, especially not finger spinners. Then again, we have never really had many decent examples of that class.

ojitarian (ojitarian), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 10:51 (twenty-one years ago)

NM Hauritz - 12 wickets at 68.67

Fred's right that White's figures aren't too great either - 21 wickets at 39.71

Other than Warney, I think White and Casson are the only two full-time spinners to average less than 40 this season.

Ross (Ross), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 11:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd pick Tait, fwiw. might be able to give the batsmen a hurry up.

Cleavy, Wednesday, 10 March 2004 22:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I agree with oj, Rofe is readier than Tiat.

Clarke took wickets in the one dayers, so surely any spinner would be better than none.

powwow (powwow), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 22:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess the selectors are going with Cleavy's theory, but Rofe (as the McGrath clone) might have been a better choice. Tait probably won't play anyway.

ojitarian (ojitarian), Thursday, 11 March 2004 07:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Like for like indeed - young fast, uncontrolled . . . he's going to have to bleach his hair, though.

tailender (tailender), Thursday, 11 March 2004 07:22 (twenty-one years ago)

He'd need to do more than that Tails. Perhaps unfortunately for somebody with his last name, he ain't no oil painting.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Thursday, 11 March 2004 10:32 (twenty-one years ago)

One of the photos in today's Aus made him look frighteningly like a brunette Blee. Which is not a comforting thought.

tailender (tailender), Friday, 12 March 2004 06:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Kaspro would seem to be OK to play in game 2 now ...

The 12 will remain unchanged I assume, unless they bring Kat in for Symonds, which seems unlikely now.
