Moomoo Cup Final

Vic v Qld.

Love v Hodge, Jimmy Meagre v Matt the Pratt, White v Hauritz, the old warhorse paceman in possibly his last match v the young tearaway in his first season, and of course Law v Berry for lead vocals.

If either side loses they'll never live it down, it will be two on the trot (three in all competitions) for the Bjelkies, or a Port-style choke for Vic. A gripping match looms.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Thursday, 11 March 2004 01:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I have the thermos ready and the blanket and the umbrella...I suspect rain is in the offing...am really looking forward to a great contest...I do not know the result I want more...a glorious vixen win or a hilarious qbilly choke

rd's auntie, Thursday, 11 March 2004 02:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be heading to the G on Sunday to see the match. I guess that will be day 3 out of 5?

ojitarian (ojitarian), Thursday, 11 March 2004 03:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Bugger. Probably working Saturday and 'tis good diving weather forecast for Sunday. All of a sudden I feel a Friday arvo migraine coming on . . .

tailender (tailender), Thursday, 11 March 2004 07:18 (twenty-one years ago)

looking at going on Sunday too

Cleavy, Thursday, 11 March 2004 23:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Qld win toss, Vics batting. Still overcast out my way. Bichel and co could be a menace.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Thursday, 11 March 2004 23:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Steady start, Viv 0-27 in 11th over

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Friday, 12 March 2004 00:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Vic 0-98, lunch day 1. So far so good.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Friday, 12 March 2004 02:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I never thought I'd say this but go you Vixen...for Hooksey and anything to stop the Qbillies for snagging another title.

regards,

REB

PS - Boof was pretty emotional when he scored his ton last night. He looked up to heavens and seemd to say 'that one's for you pal'.

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Friday, 12 March 2004 02:05 (twenty-one years ago)

If the Vics do pull this one off, it will reverse the recent dismal success rate of enterprises involving Victorians named Elliott with prominent proboscises (OK OP, if you insisst, probosci).

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Friday, 12 March 2004 02:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Though I'll admit Adam of that clan did OK at some awards night or other a week or so back, except I don't remember noticing how big his sniffer was.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Friday, 12 March 2004 02:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Isn't the Vic bowling a bit thin? Two bowlers and three allrounders: Harvey, White, and MacDonald?

I suppose they only need to draw the game, but this type of synical selection policy tends to backfire.

powwow (powwow), Friday, 12 March 2004 02:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't like the signal it sends to the opposition. Also it's a five day game and the weather forecast is clear through, so it's very likely we'll lose if we don't win.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Friday, 12 March 2004 02:49 (twenty-one years ago)

"Proboscises" is correct - the word has Greek origin, not Latin. ("proboscides" is also an accepted plural)

ojitarian (ojitarian), Friday, 12 March 2004 03:02 (twenty-one years ago)

0-132, Elliott 70 (stuck on 69 for quite a while), Anglegrinder 60

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Friday, 12 March 2004 03:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Arnberger has just hit Hauritz for two sixes in an over and has raced to 83 while Elliott remains anchored on 72. Since lunch he has scored 48 to Elliott's 11.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Friday, 12 March 2004 03:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Arneberger lbw Hauritz 90. Vic 1-163.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Friday, 12 March 2004 03:55 (twenty-one years ago)

"Isn't the Vic bowling a bit thin? Two bowlers and three allrounders: Harvey, White, and MacDonald? "

Wise has 33, and Macca 29 wickets for the season in the Pura, Lewis 27 and White 21. with Harvey and Moss (if needed) in reserve.

Cleavy, Friday, 12 March 2004 04:03 (twenty-one years ago)

For crying out loud Jnr, it is cynical not synical!

Such a mistake in the company of distinguished etymologists! They'll kick you out of the forum son.

powwow Snr. (powwow), Friday, 12 March 2004 04:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Elliott to 96, Vic 1-209.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Friday, 12 March 2004 04:39 (twenty-one years ago)

not a great decision by the Billy brain (sing) Trust to have sent the vixen in...the party continues with hodge and mattye

rd's auntie, Friday, 12 March 2004 04:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmmmm....not so sure auntie. Taking wickets is only going to get harder as the match goes on.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Friday, 12 March 2004 04:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Vic 1 for Richie at tea, Elliott the even ton, Hodge 28.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Friday, 12 March 2004 04:50 (twenty-one years ago)

a seriously great day for the vixen....1/322 at stumps with heaps of batting to come...they should at least bat out tomorrow and maybe think of a declaration around lunchtime on Sunday

rd's auntie, Friday, 12 March 2004 07:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Elliott and Hodge both re-asserted themselves as international prospects today. A failure from either and Trev would have put their file through the shredder.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Friday, 12 March 2004 07:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I predict the Vic first innings score as 666.

A score to put Qld's 94-95 onto the second line in the record book, and keep the conspiracy theorists that inhabit Qld at half a dozen a square yard excited for eons.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Friday, 12 March 2004 10:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Incidentally, Nath is wondering if any of the usual Canetoad suspects have been sighted on this forum, because they've been nowhere to be seen on his all day.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Friday, 12 March 2004 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

None of them visible at the G either. :o)

Slowish day's play, very up and down with the batting - kind of like that classic description of war "brief moments of excitement interspersed with long periods of boredom".
Qbillies bowled reasonably well, but anything loose was punished. Bix and Noffke looked OK with the new ball in the last session.

Hartley I quite like. Neat, unobtrusive, unfussed. The catch he took to get rid of Hussey was a good piece of work. Would be interesting to see him bat.

tailender (tailender), Saturday, 13 March 2004 08:19 (twenty-one years ago)

A 20-run spread around my predicted 666 is looking pretty good.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Saturday, 13 March 2004 09:14 (twenty-one years ago)

They really should declare overnight, don't want to overdo this.

tailender (tailender), Saturday, 13 March 2004 11:05 (twenty-one years ago)

'Hopefully they will revise the schedule next year so sides don't play their games against the one state close together. Victoria got off to a good start because of this, if it played sides a bit more spaced then it would have hardly had as much an opportunity to attack weakened lineups like an effective QLD second XI at the start of the season in all four games they played.'

From shortie on Nath's. Fortunately the Sook-o-Meter isn't connected or it would have blown up.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Sunday, 14 March 2004 01:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Vixen all out for 710. Lunch on day three.

Big Dog (Big Dog), Sunday, 14 March 2004 02:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Good work from the Vixen ...

And the Q'billies are now 5 down, there is no hope of their reaching the follow-on mark.

Though there is no need for Victoria to enforce the follow-on ... they could go out and make 666 or thereabouts in their second innings, too, against this stuffed Queensland attack ...

pieman (pieman), Sunday, 14 March 2004 06:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Unless Queensland make over 350, which ain't looking likely, not enforcing the follow on would be taking the joke a bit too far.

(Although Dave Hussey would appreciate another bat....)

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Sunday, 14 March 2004 06:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Hartley out, Moss has two wickets for no runs, Q 6-157 4 overs from stumps.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Sunday, 14 March 2004 07:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I just thought this needed some further analysis:

Bichel 37 4 170 1 (3nb, 1w)

pieman (pieman), Sunday, 14 March 2004 09:03 (twenty-one years ago)

These days when Andy is good he's still good, but when he's bad he's downright ugly. He's had it. Hopefully he can make a few runs tomorrow to remember his last game by.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Sunday, 14 March 2004 09:24 (twenty-one years ago)

"...I do not know the result I want more...a glorious vixen win or a hilarious qbilly choke
-- rd's auntie, March 11th, 2004 1:05 PM. "

Looks like you're getting both, horrie. :o)

Also looks like I picked the wrong day to be there. Ahh well, 'twas a great day out on the boat, anyway.

tailender (tailender), Sunday, 14 March 2004 10:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Bichel out to White for 19. Love 38 not out. Qld now within 500.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Monday, 15 March 2004 00:49 (twenty-one years ago)

9-251, Love has a 50, Dawes and he have put on 22 for the last wicket.

Erik, which thread (of which forum) was your last post meant to go to?

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Monday, 15 March 2004 02:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Unsatisified with the size of their lead the Victorians have
elected not to enforce the follow on and will daringly bat again
0.1 Dawes to Arnberger, one run, pushed out behind square leg
0.2 Dawes to Elliott, wide: no run, outside off
0.2 Dawes to Elliott, FOUR, lovely drive through forward of point
0.3 Dawes to Elliott, no run, played to mid on
0.4 Dawes to Elliott, no run, played to mid off
0.5 Dawes to Elliott, two runs, pushed out toward point a wild throw
gives away extra runs
0.6 Dawes to Elliott, no run, played to mid off

powwow (powwow), Monday, 15 March 2004 03:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Hopefully they're only planning on batting tor two or three hours to give the bowlers a rest.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Monday, 15 March 2004 03:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Last Hauritz over went for 24 including 6s to Arnberger off the first three balls. Vic 0-114, lead by 549

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Monday, 15 March 2004 05:32 (twenty-one years ago)

The Vics declare, leaving Qld the small matter of 576 to win off 112(?) overs (assuming 96 overs per day).

ojitarian (ojitarian), Monday, 15 March 2004 05:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Oji, only 90 overs in a day because it's a five-day match.

Ross (Ross), Monday, 15 March 2004 06:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Jimmy Meagre out first ball, c White b Lewis. Qld 1-13.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Monday, 15 March 2004 06:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks Ross. So in fact, 576 off 106 overs @ 5.4 per over at the start of the innings.

Hoo Roo Stoo!!!!

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 02:03 (twenty-one years ago)

cheers FN...the ass fell for the oldest trick in the leggie armory...allow a cut for 4 then follow up with the next slightly fuller that either comes back or goes straight...

are you still in the C4 cooler?

rd's auntie, Tuesday, 16 March 2004 02:13 (twenty-one years ago)

The Vixen are almost there. 7/177, Mad Mick gets a Michelle.

ojitarian (ojitarian), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 02:48 (twenty-one years ago)

All over, the Vics win!

Vic 710 and 1/140 (decl.)
Qld 275 and 254 (Law 72, Lewis 6/59)

ojitarian (ojitarian), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 04:12 (twenty-one years ago)

yay x 300 odd runs....a great year for the vixen...this comprehensive thrashing is a tribute to the players, staff and the late coach (also the ntl selectors who have allowed this team to stay together barely encumbered by national duties

horace, Tuesday, 16 March 2004 04:20 (twenty-one years ago)

The best team throughout the season and the best team in the final. Well done.

ojitarian (ojitarian), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 04:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Well done, lads. Fully deserved after the way you've played this season.

tailender (tailender), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 07:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Auntie, yes I am still on the outer at C4. I emailed their Grand Poo Bah a week ago asking what particular foul breach of public order and decency I had committed and I am still waiting for their response.

I saw the last hour of the match testerday, and the presentations. It was good that Hookesy figured so heavily, but also good that a few people remembered his predecessor, John Scholes, who also ded less than a year ago.

Hauritz did what he could to recover the ground from White that Jason Anglegrinder took on Monday, by clouting White for 15 runs in the third last over before the end of the innings.

Overall, a great win by Victoria, and goodbye to Darren 'the Elder' Beerry (that was a typo but it's staying in) and thanks for the memories. Deano says hi also.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 01:02 (twenty-one years ago)

thanx Fred...apparently MattyE organised a huddle of team and staff with two places left for scholes and hookes...nice touch...

hope your suspension finished soon

Auntie - they showed Elliott organising the huddle on Sports Tonight last night. 'Twas indeed a nice touch.

ojitarian (ojitarian), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 05:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Aye, there was photo of the gap and some surrounding players in today's papers. A fitting gesture.
