NSW 267
SA 6/213 (Cosgrove 25*, Davison 17*, Deitz 66, Nicholson 4/41)

just after drinks in the post-lunch session.

ojitarian (ojitarian), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 04:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Great fightback by the South Aussies to take 1st innings points,
after a bit of a collapse. 6/298 at tea, Cosgrove 62 off 90 and
Davison 65 off 57. These two have added 121 at just under 6 an over!

In the other game, the Wozzies are 3/203 vs. the Vixen. Goodwin made 70, Rogers still there on 80*.

ojitarian (ojitarian), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 05:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Why did Wuagh persist with bowlers who were getting smashed. Had he conceded first innings points and hoping to force an earlier declaration, or did the only bowler who looked -=according to figures- likely to take a wicket, Nicholson, need a rest?

I'd like to know the class to arse ratio of Davidson's innings.

powwow (powwow), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 05:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Waiting for the second new ball apparently. Is it a newie every 80 overs in MooCow cup? .

Dominic Stefanson (powwow), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 05:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Yep, new ball taken now. Davo's innings a bit arsey but he is a clean
hitter and in pretty good form right now. Cosgrove seems to have played pretty well - good to see a promising batsman come thru, we (SA) need them!

ojitarian (ojitarian), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 06:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Cosgrove gets his maiden ton! Well played lad. 6/354 now, Davo on 80.

ojitarian (ojitarian), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 06:09 (twenty-two years ago)

'we (SA) need them!'

We (Australia) could do with a couple as well.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 06:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Absolutely, Fred.

Davo denied his maiden FC ton, Nicholson gets a Michelle:

83.3 Nicholson to Davison, OUT: drives to backward point

South Australia 358/7, Partnership of 181
JM Davison c Katich b Nicholson 84 (81b 13x4 0x6)
MJ Cosgrove 101* (124b 14x4 2x6) MJ Nicholson 14.3-3-55-5 (1w)

They added 181 in 30.5 overs. Great going considering the somewhat precarious position they were in.

ojitarian (ojitarian), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 06:14 (twenty-two years ago)

wow, how come it took the Canadians to discover Davison's all-round talents when he'd been round the ridges in Vic and SA for about 5 years ??

pieman (pieman), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 08:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Slats is out for a duck in the second dig. Might have trouble holding onto his place in the team if his bad form keeps up.

Ross (Ross), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 08:28 (twenty-two years ago)

In your face, Slats! :D

Slats' No 1 Fan, Wednesday, 19 November 2003 09:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Pieman,
have a look at Davo's first class record and you will be able to answer your own question.

powwow (powwow), Thursday, 20 November 2003 01:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Davo's of no use at all in the first-class matches, he rarely takes wickets and good runs are pretty rare from him. However, he's shown this year that he can be very useful in the one-day team.

Ross (Ross), Thursday, 20 November 2003 02:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I would have thought 80 was pretty useful ...

pieman (pieman), Thursday, 20 November 2003 02:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Not often that he makes an 80 though, his first-class batting average is 12.

Ross (Ross), Thursday, 20 November 2003 02:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I know this Ross ...

My (small) point was that he played for Vic and SA for years, coming in at 9-11, never scoring, nobody thought he could bat at all, when he obviously can bat.

I doubt he'd even be in the SA side ATM if it were not for the surprising batting talents he displayed at the WC. I guess he is keeping Young out at present.

Gosh he could even be the next Flintoff!

pieman (pieman), Thursday, 20 November 2003 03:14 (twenty-two years ago)

"I doubt he'd even be in the SA side ATM if it were not for the surprising batting talents he displayed at the WC."

You're right on that count. There's not a chance he'd be opening the batting in the one-day matches and only a marginally better chance that he'd be playing. He might have been a regular in the Sozzie Shield team before the World Cup though.

As for Youngy, I don't think he got a contract this year, much to Nath's disappointment I'm sure.

Ross (Ross), Thursday, 20 November 2003 03:26 (twenty-two years ago)

A very strange score card for this game. Many batsmen have got a start and failed to go on with it - Cosgrove excluded. Is it something to do with the nature of the pitch?

powwow (powwow), Thursday, 20 November 2003 05:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Dizzy 5/54

Blewett probably waited to long to take the new ball and give it to Dizzy who quickly clean up the tail.

It looks like SA will continue its recent and almost inexplicable domination of full-strength NSW sides.

I am only the person here?

Dominic Stefanson (powwow), Thursday, 20 November 2003 07:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Good to see dizzy with a positive return to cricket after his absence.
After some fine batting preformances from individual dubbers suddenly they find themselves facing 2 outright losses in a row...

Poseiden (Poseiden), Thursday, 20 November 2003 07:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Nash to Fitzgerald, OUT: pads up to an inducker, plumb!

Does somebody want to tell the sozzies what that piece of wood in their hadns is for.

powwow (powwow), Thursday, 20 November 2003 07:43 (twenty-two years ago)

With no malice or gloating whatsoever, I'd say Slats has had the gong.

I was at Lords in 93. I'll miss him, even though concensus seems to be that he's a prat.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Thursday, 20 November 2003 07:53 (twenty-two years ago)

consensus

"prat" I won't argue with.

Great to see Dizzy safely negotiating his (latest) comeback (so far). Almost as good to see him get a Michelle, even if it included a few tailenders.

tailender (tailender), Thursday, 20 November 2003 09:06 (twenty-two years ago)

"As for Youngy, I don't think he got a contract this year, much to Nath's disappointment I'm sure."

I'm heartbroken!

Skulker, Thursday, 20 November 2003 10:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Not much happening in the world of MooMoo today:
SA cruising to a win over the dubbers: South Australia require another 60 runs with 8 wickets remaining

Vics upping their RR slightly and looking to post a big 1st Innings lead over the Wozzies: Victoria trail by 101 runs with 8 wickets remaining
Elliot 71
Hodge 69*
Moss 5*

Qbillies have lost a few early wickets chasing Tassie's 233: Queensland trail by 219 runs with 8 wickets remaining in the 1st Innings

Poseiden (Poseiden), Friday, 21 November 2003 01:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Things are getting tense at Adelaide Oval. Dizzy and Self-Raising out in quick succession. It's 4/103 now, 32 more required but it sounds like the pitch is doing funny things. Qbillies have collapsed to 5/48. Love and Seccombe are at the crease. Have to love this from the (presumably) Qbilly commentator:

14.6 Denton to Seccombe, FOUR, square drive through point. Ominous shot

How any shot can be "ominous" when your team is 5/41 is beyond me...

ojitarian (ojitarian), Friday, 21 November 2003 01:49 (twenty-two years ago)

So Flower has still failed to do anything of note.

Ross (Ross), Friday, 21 November 2003 01:56 (twenty-two years ago)

At this rate he will be one of the worst ever imports in SS/PC.

ojitarian (ojitarian), Friday, 21 November 2003 01:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Flower has only played three games. Give him a bit of time.

MacGill just got a wicket off the seventh ball of the over!

powwow (powwow), Friday, 21 November 2003 02:05 (twenty-two years ago)

SA win!!!! Blewey cover drives a four to take the points.

NSW 267 (Mail 94, Nash 46, Rofe 4/62)
& 267 (Katich 69, Mail 46, Jaques 46, Gillespie 5/54)

SA 400 (Cosgrove 118, Davison 84, Deitz 66, Nicholson 6/76)
& 5/137 (Blewett 65*)

Qbillies 5/54 at lunch.

ojitarian (ojitarian), Friday, 21 November 2003 02:09 (twenty-two years ago)

*wonders if the Vics should immediately declare after getting the 2 pts*

Cleavy, Friday, 21 November 2003 02:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Dubbers and Qbillies eating dirt, Tassie winning a game or two, Dizzy back on the field and on song - turning into a good start to the season.
Now, if I could just do a LJH and retrospectively excise certain players from my Fantasy Teams (and replace them with certain others), it would be about as god as it gets.

tailender (tailender), Friday, 21 November 2003 08:40 (twenty-two years ago)

... as god as it gets ??

pieman (pieman), Saturday, 22 November 2003 02:26 (twenty-two years ago)

*shrug*

It would take God to do it . . .

Lousy time to be an atheistic-leaning agnostic.

tailender (tailender), Saturday, 22 November 2003 07:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Extending the theme a little, especially as tac has been about, did you mean excise or exorcise ??

pieman (pieman), Saturday, 22 November 2003 13:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Given that some of them have been mere ghostly presences, exorcise is as good a word as any.

tailender (tailender), Sunday, 23 November 2003 08:10 (twenty-two years ago)
