What is the highest score that two batsmen in the same test innings scored & who are the batsmen?

silly point, Wednesday, 19 November 2003 04:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Huh? Is this the exact same score or the highest combined score?

(if the latter) Jaya and Attapattu?

No it's the former, eg Border & Jones both got out for 107 in the same innings. What is the highest score that team mates got out on in the same innings. (The Border/Jones thing is just an example, it never happened)....

Bradman and Barnes, 234 in the '46/'47 Ashes.

ojitarian (ojitarian), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 05:17 (twenty-two years ago)

If that's the case...
I have NFI ;-)

That's it ojitarian, well done.

Full answer courtesy of Bill Frindall - stats guru on the BBC site:

234 is the highest score recorded by two batsmen in the same Test match innings and there are no other instances involving 150 or more.

Syd Barnes was a serial extrovert and one of his contemporaries told me that he had deliberately got out when he had equalled The Don's score so that his innings would be remembered because of this unique double.

Their stand of 405 remains the Test record for the fifth wicket and Barnes' 200 in nine hours 30 minutes was the slowest in Anglo-Australian Tests until 1964.

'Barnes' 200 in nine hours 30 minutes was the slowest in Anglo-Australian Tests until 1964.'

When (I think) it was beaten by Bob Simpson's first Test century (which became 311) after seven years and 30+ Tests, an innings a long time coming in all kinds of ways.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 05:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Simpson's score must be the highest for a first test ton, then? Tip Foster made 287* on debut but I can't think of any bigger first tons.

two weeks pass...
OJ, Sobers' 365* was his first Test ton. I think the score of Hutton's that it beat was also a debut ton.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 12:26 (twenty-two years ago)

By 'debut ton' I of course meant initial ton.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 23:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, of course. Stupid of me to forget Sobers. Hutton made two scores of exactly 100 before his record-breaking effort.

Don't worry oji - "Sober" and "Aussie cricket fan" are not words that generally go together.

Too true taily. I can't claim to be innocent on that score. :-) Good stuff by the Aussies today - not easy to concentrate with rain interruptions.

Yeah, almost hoping the weather's bad down here this weekend so I can watch a bit of the game live.

The Indian bowlers seem to have been very up and down in their performance, from what I can gather.
