Love, Clarke, Katich

Who will get the nod to replace Lehmann. I'd say that Clarke is still third in line for a test birth. Katich should not be favoured on account of his bowling that will get smashed in most Tests - esp. against India. So this should leave Love at the top of the list. HOw is he against spin?

Like a lot of specialist No 3's, he is fine against spin provided he's had a chance to play himself in against pace. I want to see Clarke in a couple of MooMoo games to see if his temperament has improved before I'll pick him in the Test team.

Katich is in possession and he didn't do much wrong. The fact that he was using his chances while Clarke was checking out the Taj Mahal and playing a lot of golf (and a little bit of cricket) in India is unfortunate but irrelevant.

deano II should get the job...but wont....the ghost of simmo riles selection policy...love wont get up (wrong state)

Love looked all at sea against Omari Banks (a mediocre spinner at best) in the West Indies.

simmo riles? Most likely NOT a typo.....

Still unsure if Deano II in big moments is much of an improvement on Deano I.

Is Katich in possesion. I thought he was there as a one-off because of his spinners on the SCG?

A bit rough on Deano I guys.

Katich is in the last team that played. He it therefore 'in possession'.

Dean Jones specialised in junk runs in dead rubbers in the middle and latter stages of his career. He was the Michael Milken of cricket. Hadlee, Imran Khan and the West Indian quicks sorted him out in five minutes.

Those you have mentioned Fred sorted out many batsmen in 5 minutes.

I tend to think that someone should be chosen with an eye to the Indian leg of the tour. Australia already have enough players who cannot play good finger spin. Therefore whoever is most likely to play well in India should be chosen. Sadly I have no idea who this might be.

Katich looks well organised against spin ...

Then again, maybe Bevan will be given another (last) go at Test cricket, given his Indian experience and proficiency v spin.

Anybody's guess ...

Give Katich a chance to prove himself this summer, he's earned it. If he handles the spinners well enough here, then put him in the squad for the tour.

And keep your fingers crossed . . .
