Has Steve Waugh had the gong?

Still scoring runs but nowhere near as convincingly as some others and his captaincy reminds me more and more of Amy's comment to Capt Hannibal smith in the first ep of The A Team: 'Sure, 10 out of 10 for macho, but is it smart?'

Is his time up? Will he make it to India?

He would have to have a truly disastrous summer here not to make it to India, and his form is still good enough to suggest that's highly unlikely.

Probably the only thing that would stop him going is an injury. (hint: Dizzy, this time, when you run into him - don't injure yourself!)

Not likely. And everyone knows what a fan I am.

Not likely that he'll make it to India? Or not likely that he'll get injured? Or not likely that his form will drop off?

The one thing that doesn't need saying, you say - but your first comment is not exactly clear.
Please elucidate.

He might be 38 (poor old bastard) but he seems to be hitting the ball as hard, as often, and as well as ever.

I hope he goes to Indian, wins, and then retires ... handing the captaincy on to Ponting AFTER an Indian tour, where he does not need additional stress.

The bloke who sang 'War' (what is it good for? Absolutely nuthin'!), Edwin Starr, died last month.

He had a huge hit with that song in 1968, around the time the Daily Telegraph was first starting to scream for Steve W to be picked in the Test team.

No long til Shane Waughn is back, anyway ...
