ROFL...does the nerk forum think that the Koala will be allowed to retire according to the script or whether he might be saked in advance of his retirement for hodge/love/etc...imagine the Sydney crowd howling at a vixen of Billy who had replaced the motheaten marsupial

Dream on horrie...

Martyn is the boy who'll be nervously looking over his shoulder at Hodge and co's numbers right now.

no i think that martyn has earned his place with consistent performances...while boof has been unjustly treated over the years a similar case can be made for marto...both came from the wrong state

It's amazing that all these batsmen seem to be putting their hands up at the right time- two spots suddenly available in the lower order for Australia- hasn't happened for a while.

Lehmann, Katich and Love would all be in line, but I wouldn't be surprised if Clarke is also taken as a tour batsman to the subcontinent, with Hodge perhaps unlucky to miss out at the moment.

Will the Australian selectors also fall back on their tactic of recalling a dumped batsman for a renaissance a la Hayden, Langer, Martyn, etc. Blewett, anyone?

Poseiden (Poseiden), Thursday, 27 November 2003 01:57 (twenty-one years ago)

no i think that blewett like MattyE has little chance of a recall

Marto has had a pretty good go despite poor recent returns. Since his 133 in the first test in Saffieland he averages under 30 (12 tests, 18 innings, 5 fifties). His one-day numbers have been much better in this time: 46 matches, average 49, 2 hundreds and 10 fifties, so his ODI spot is not in danger.

Bevan for India ??

pieman (pieman), Thursday, 27 November 2003 04:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Blewett, Bevan and Elliott each have the same chance of playing another Test, as Sid Miller of the ARU and 'Louie the Fly' have of representing Australia at the next International Lassoo Championships.

Tabloid hacks, please find fresh causes (suggest Cosgrove, Clarke and Hodge respectively).

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Thursday, 27 November 2003 06:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I actually think Bevan would be a decent "horses for courses" selection for India. None of the Indian seamers will trouble him on those pitches and he is a good player of spin.

ojitarian (ojitarian), Thursday, 27 November 2003 06:57 (twenty-one years ago)

We could do worse than the Human Slug in India, especially without Waugh. Hoping Boof is fit, but otherwise Bevan is almost a neccessity.

Marto would have to have real shockers in the first two Tests not to be there in Melbourne and Sydney. He's earned a bit of slack rope.

If the tour was two years previously, I think that Bevo should be taken, but he is past it.

I think it will look like Lehmann and Katich with Clarke there as possible replacement for Martyn should he fall over.

With Ponting as captain and the series being in India, I think the line up will be
4.Lehmann
5.Katich
6.Martyn/Clarke
