Does anyone else think he might be past his peak?

Yes, but his peak was higher than most, so he can be past it but still far enough from rock bottom to be a factor.

McGrath's peak was around 2001. He is still a bloody good bowler though. If you need any evidence as to how good, consider how ordinary our bowling has been without him in the side.

Sure, his last couple of series haven't been that flash.
Could be that he was carrying an injury though. I think if he wants to continue a long layoff like this and back to peak fitness is the way to go.

Another injury and he will be finished, I fear.

I suppose the way to go would be to gently start his transition to first change bowler. I'm not sure that the great man's ego would cope with that.

I find all this talk about the bleakness of Australian future without Warne and McGrath -when it comes- slightly perplexing. Both Warne and McGrath would be in just about anyone's list of five best-ever Australian bowlers. WOuld there be any team in the history of cricket that could not fit them in reguarly and not be considerably weakened by their absence?

Most bowlers can only dream of having a best like McGrath's to be past. And most around today can still only dream of being as good as he currently is.

Past it or not, he'll do me till something better comes along - which is not likely in the next 20 years.
