Is it some clever-clogs from here that has been signing into the ABC forum as 'Lesser Sardine' and 'OPs Sinking Sardine Can'?

For the sake of all concerned I hope Orca never gets a tail on the culprit....

Would we do that . . . . ?

tailender (tailender), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 10:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll own up to 'Lesser Sardine'.:-)

Great finish in the Pura match. Scores tied and the match drawn. Prolly a good thing as those Tozzies would have opened up a bit of a gap had they got the four points. Another ton to the Marsh boy, Aus A perhaps?

Great minds, chrisso. I'm "OP's sinking sardine can". Too good to let go. :-)

Great match. Pity about the result. One modding run - just one useless modding run for a tie, two for the win. Great to see them try for it and go so close. And they say Shield cricket is boring. That would have been the best place to be in the whole country today.

Surely Young Marsh has earned a go in the A side? It was a true captain's knock.

When will the big galoot realise something odd is going on? (Before or after 10/02/04?)

Dan Marsh is having a great season but I fear Trev and co may have marked his card already.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 11:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Not even if he moved to Spiv Central?

tailender (tailender), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 13:07 (twenty-two years ago)

The all-knowing Dubber conspiracy theorists, whose revelations we all so rely on so heavily for correct information, will tell you Desperate Dan's old man only got his Australian gig because he gave his bithplace as 'Armidale' and the morons at the ACB of course thought that had to be the Armidale just up the road from Tamworth.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 13:19 (twenty-two years ago)

And Geoff Dymock only played because they thought he came from the Victorian Maryborough ...

pieman (pieman), Thursday, 11 December 2003 00:35 (twenty-two years ago)

BTW it's Armadale :o) (in WA, that is)

pieman (pieman), Thursday, 11 December 2003 00:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Marsh is already 30, so probably too late for him to get an international call-up.

ojitarian (ojitarian), Thursday, 11 December 2003 00:45 (twenty-two years ago)

At 30 he would have at least 5 good years left in him, but I dont think it's a direction the selectors will want to take. Good back-up though.

Back to the game, embee posted this on the C4 site:
"This games shows an anomaly (sp) in the points system.

If tozzie had lost three more wickets they would have tied the game and got 3? points. However as they still had wickets in hand - a supposedly better position - they only drew the game and got no points."

Poseiden (Poseiden), Thursday, 11 December 2003 02:29 (twenty-two years ago)

If a true tie (10 wickets down in the 4th innings) is regarded as a draw by CA for the purposes of points allocation, then it really doesn't matter what devices we might come up with to suddenly lose those last 3 wickets before the end of the game.

If there are shared points for a true tie, then I expect any team in a similar situation will ensure that the last wicket falls on the last ball, whether it be by successively having batsmen dismissed "retired out" or "timed out" or simply "absent ill/injured". Especially if they can afford to lose by one run to the probable eventual wooden-spooners ...

pieman (pieman), Thursday, 11 December 2003 05:09 (twenty-two years ago)

It's easy enough to engineer with just one or two wickets in hand, but any more and you're risking losing the game - which is a bigger call in Shield cricket than Tests.

Looks like the ABC Mod has woken up to the fish thing. I posted a couple of genuine cricket comments as 'John Wests smarter younger brother' but they never made it.

Big Dog (Big Dog), Monday, 15 December 2003 07:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Obviously the Mod has finally realised something fishy's going on.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Monday, 15 December 2003 07:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I got some in as "I rejected John West". Reelly strange.
