i would rep for excellent adventure over back to the future any day, but the sequels? i think i gotta go with back to the future II -- christopher lloyd over ridonckulously bad seventh seal homages any day, i think.

i sd this when my friends and i had a debate and got hit with v. serious charge of our version of "challops" U_u

i have 2 rescrn these before i cast my vote but i think a strong case can be made either way

socratic method

redmond, Saturday, 17 January 2009 04:10 (sixteen years ago)

there are rationales to be made either way. the whole crispin glover-michael j fox chemistry is actually pretty amazing imo, but the thing about bill & ted is as follows:

a) the old west scenes
b) winona-ryderesque girl from gogos playing joan of arc and being hot
c) george carlin seems like more of a bro about time travel than doc brown is
d) keanu's dust in the wind scene
e) clarence clemons is the president of the future
f) the attention to future time machine ability detail such as the trash can in the door to drop down on his dad
g) the alaskan military school: is this actually a cold war metaphor?
h) ghengis khan wasting the modells is pretty cool, no lie
i) his mom IS pretty hot
j) keanu went on to do such amazing work as speed, constantine, johnny uh can't spell that, the first matrix (2 & 3 were minus points for sure), etc. he's a pretty solid terrible actor.
k) the girls who are past-time british babes are clearly not english at all, which is hilarious because who can't get british chicks for cheap?
l) the guy who plays billy the kid is adorable in a proto-not-successful-owen wilson type of way
m) clarence clemons gets two mentions because he actually is that awesome
n) waterloo water amusement park is actually a place called sunsplash, which was around the corner from my old house when i lived "out west", whch i've been to many times /max
o) the whole napoleon is a dick meme thruout the film
p) "eat the pig, eat the pig, ziggy ziggy ziggy PIG!!!"
q) "Iron maiden! excellent!" (air guitar)
r) i'm running out of shit but determined to do an alphabet. keanu's hair is better than mj fox's hair tho, which is a truism for all time.
s) ok never mind, i'm done.

back to the future has a cooler vehicle for sure tho -- phone booth is a little "doctor who" imo. whereas deloreans are rare.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Saturday, 17 January 2009 04:20 (sixteen years ago)

^^ guess this hs nothing to do with sequels tho but rather pristine originals

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Saturday, 17 January 2009 04:20 (sixteen years ago)

i'd have to say there are differences in style that differentiate these two movies that I feel we should establish before discussion. back to the future II has more of an 80s style to its humor, so it's more straightforward. bogus journey is more of a 90s movie, more sarcastic, cynical, and in your face than the 80s. so ... based on that, I like bogus journey more as a movie, and b2tfuII more as an artifact.

Any other questions?

burt_stanton, Saturday, 17 January 2009 04:31 (sixteen years ago)

no, you explained it all, clarissa.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Saturday, 17 January 2009 05:18 (sixteen years ago)

lol secret world of burt_stanton

the sdtrk for bogus journey is better imo one possible jumping off point for a larger discussion about critical modes

Lamp, Saturday, 17 January 2009 05:37 (sixteen years ago)

soundtrack is sketchy because see my huey lewis thread for more info (or don't, it was weirdly controversial to say "dudes have opinions about this bands, and girls don't! lol")

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Saturday, 17 January 2009 05:41 (sixteen years ago)

hahaha that thread helped me discover a) huey lewis news and b) that i dont like them.

there's maybe an obvious way in that the slapdash-stoner humor and the high/low riffing of bogus journey is replicated in the pretty dope sdtrk whereas the whole huey lewis aesthetic describes what is less appealing about b2tf II

Lamp, Saturday, 17 January 2009 05:49 (sixteen years ago)

ok here's something to consider -- b2tf III is better than b2tf II.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Saturday, 17 January 2009 05:59 (sixteen years ago)

having considered i concur

Ugh, I think B2tFIII gave me some of my irrational hatred of westerns during formative years, et al.

Eric H., Monday, 19 January 2009 05:25 (sixteen years ago)

hated B2tFII, have never made it 20 mins into either Bill & Ted (abstain)

System, Saturday, 24 January 2009 00:01 (sixteen years ago)

watched b2tf2 last nite - much better than i remembered - it doesnt have the engrossing character or plot development of the 1st - but really it cant be expected to live up to one of the great films of all time and as such is better regarded as a companion rather than a sequel - its like the difference between watching sports and reading a sports almanac - on some heavy aspie shit it delves into time travel and future gear minutia often doubling back to investigate the original w/a nerd eye - loved that aspect btw and all that future shit too - lol @ wiping the girlfriends memory and leaving her in an alley

ice cr?m, Saturday, 24 January 2009 00:22 (sixteen years ago)

I get bullied from my friends because for whatever reason I never saw Back to the Future II until early last year. Having seen it I have to say it pwns Bogus Journey.

I suppose it's poetic justice, two McFlys with the same gun!

Women can be captains too, you know? (jim), Sunday, 25 January 2009 06:25 (sixteen years ago)

this has topped my bad experience of losing my friend's tenner in the taxi, combined with the ATM eating my card, combined with me giving the taxi driver change of, at least a pound, less than he should have got.

Women can be captains too, you know? (jim), Sunday, 25 January 2009 06:26 (sixteen years ago)

I am so alienated a member of Papa Roach would be more stoked than me.
