Will Langer be next?

With Captain Tugboat's impatiently-awaited retirement now less than a week away from factdom, who will the next target be for the respective whinging State tabloid cricket writers each with their own local heroes to promote?

The Narrowly Limited Wozzie Legume must be close to the head of the queue again, with one good score for the summer, but his mate Martyn also needs to so something fairly special fairly much pronto.

Katich is safe for the moment but Lehmann will at least challenge him for the role of batting all-rounder (as distinct from the latter-day Waugh role of batsman and occasional bowler) and if Simon has to rely purely on his batting he'll need a ton or two by the time he gats back from SL at the latest.

The bowling? God knows. But the boy who may not get to SL at all if all his mates are fit, especially with the new Akela taking over, is 'Charlie Chainsaw' himself, Brett Lee.

I don't think the vindictive Malcolm Conn has zeroed in on him just yet ...

A bit harsh on Langer. Aquacker's late swing into leg is really troubling JL at the moment.

Personally, I am becoming more frustrated with Damien 'thirtysomething' Martyn, who is yet to score a test ton since batting at number four. At least JL has made a ton in this series and anyone who has played cricket will tell you, facing the new ball is harder than coming in at number four, especially when MTB and Punter have flayed the unfortunate bowlers.

REB - perhaps Marto might have scored a ton in Brisbane if not run out in the first innings or declared upon in the second.

He has looked good each time he has come in, and has been out to the first chance offered in each innings thus far.

Langer has produced when he was needed.

After that ridiculous lame shot Marto got out to he is now well and truly in the gun.

who's got the ----ing gun?

If I was Marto I'd be hoping like hell it's Brett Lee.

Or Ta40.

Going on the 3 innings I've seen live, if any batsman should be dropped, it would be Marto. I've seldom seen 40 scratchier runs than those he produced in the Sydney second innings, and first time round he was no better. He just isn't comfortable against spin.

Boof comes back to replace Tugga - goes into his rightful no.4 spot - Katich has more than earned his berth as 5 or 6, and Marto can fight it out with Love and Clarke for the other spot.

And Blee - although he bowled marginally better in Sydney than in Melbourne - has to be left behind. More match practice than Dizzy, and bowled less than half as well.

PS I was there when Tuggas played his final innings.

A ton to Langer and more carp from Martyo. That run out was in the first innings of the first test. How long is going to dine out on THAT one?

Christ, bring in Hodge, Love, ANYONE instead of this Wozzie crab.
