2. AccessThere are currently 9 gates being used at the G - one each for AFL and MCG Members, and the other 7 for the Southern and Olympic Stands. The SCG has one gate for the Brewongle/Churchill Stand, two (I think)for the Members, and two for the other half of the ground - the Concourse, the Hill and the Bradman, Messenger, O'Reilly and Walters stands.
3. LayoutThis ties into the access. There are very limited walkways in the main part of the SCG, much of which is as a result of the ad hoc nature of the construction and the limited access points. You spend most of your time inching along amongst a solid mass of (semi)humanity. If an emergency were to occur it would be a disaster. The ground lost most of its character when the Hill was concreted and plastic-seated, and gained nothing in capacity, comfort or efficiency. The G, even with its far bigger crowds, is easier to move around in and feels less crowded.
4. FacilitiesThe G has more variety in food and drinks available for the plebs, TVs in the standing areas in Gen. Adm., more toilets per head, more shaded areas, food vans outside (as one stand attendant said: "Nothing's too good for the workers"). The only thing there's plenty of at the SCG is beer. And even there the queues are three times the length.
5. PassoutsOut and back in, any time at the G, no problems.Once you're in the SCG, that's it; if you leave you don't come back that day. Which adds to the crowding during breaks, the pressure on the limited facilites and:
6. SmokingIn 5 days (OK, 4 1/4) at the G, I got one tiny vagrant whiff of smoke, so brief I couldn't be sure it had been there. At the SCG - according to the tickets a "Smoke-Free Venue" - it's almost impossible to get away from it. "Smoke-Free" apparently means (offically) that you can smoke here, here and here, but not there. Effectively, it means people smoke anywhere they think they can get away with it, which is pretty well anywhere but right next to the attendants in the Stands.(Legal action is still a possibility)
7. Crowd behaviourThere were more ejections in the first day at Sydney than the entire game at the G. In Sydney, 99% of the crowd (except the Indian fans) seemed to be there for only one reason - Steve Waugh. Good play by the Indians was ignored or even jeered by the vast majority on the first three days, the one exception being SRT's innings.
8. General Admission? No such thing with big crowds at the SCG. Every seat is numbered. At the G, the "Concourse" equivalent is sit where you can - you get in early on the day, you pick the seat you want.
9. Open GatesSCG half-price from 4pm till 5, then they're open. At the G, soon as the final session starts, the gates are open.
10. Environmental(Just to annoy BD) No recycle bins, no half-flush loos at the SCG.
There have been considerable changes to both grounds since I last visited them (some 15 odd years back),and the changes have not been to the SCG's advantage. They would be better off tearing down every bit of concrete from the old Hill to the Bradman Stand, and starting again - with a bit of thought as to practicalities.

Too true. I was extremely disappointed to see the crowd leaving in droves after Tugga's dismissal in the first innings. It's the type of thing a lot of the Indian 'fans' do when Tendulkar gets out in India. I was hoping we'd be above repeating them.

Next day: at the precise spot where I had had my little contretemps with Colonel Flagg, someone had put up a sign easily visible from the spot where I had bought the beer from: 'WARNING: NO LIQUOR PASSED THIS POINT.'
(Wonder it that was one of ccc's students? The Canetoad education system strikes again...)

'WARNING: NO LIQUOR PASSED THIS POINT.'
Maybe they're bragging about their efficiency.

Some inconsiderate prick (or two) hurt poor Jeff's feelings/ego. (That's your mate from Page 1 of the MCG/SCG thread, who is hereafter to be known as the Dozy Wiggle.)

Shouldn't expect him to be back in action any time immediately, he last posted at about 6 am his local time. But he'll doubtless be back sooner rather than later, the challenge to his Grand Poo Bah status would be something no self-respecting Orca-in-a-sardine-can could possibly stand for.

Hope I'm around when he returns to add fuel to the fire. ;-)
