Victoria have just pulled off an amazing win against NSW in Newcastle,
reaching a target of 455 with 3 wickets and 15 overs to spare. David
Hussey made 212 not out off around 220 balls (26 fours, 5 sixes) to get
them home. MacGill 2/160 off 36 overs. :-)

In Adelaide, SA are struggling. Having started at 1/25 they
crawled along to 4/105 before suffering a spectacular collapse of 6/7
in 9 overs. Tassie are batting again and are 2/124, giving them a lead
of 219. Dighton and Watson are at the crease. Cleary has both wickets.

In Perth, WA will be disappointed with their final tally of 9/427
declared, after being 3/363 late yesterday. In reply, the Qbillies
are clubbing the WA bowling all over the park. It's 1/109 off 22
overs, with WA having just made the first breakthrough - Maher gone
for 60.

MacGill once again fails to win an important game, on a final day pitch.

Another feather in little brazen's cap.

pieman (pieman), Monday, 12 January 2004 07:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Dave Hussey is producing great stat but he won't get a look in from Hohns and co batting at 5. It might be time to ease Deano II down the pecking order.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Monday, 12 January 2004 07:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Notice SW (Simon?) Meulemann, about the only batsman to make a run for WA in that Vic debacle, was named 12th for the Qld game.

Katich, Dave Hussey....there's quite a traffic jam heading east on the Nullarbor already, and it might get worse.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Monday, 12 January 2004 09:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Scott Meuleman, Fred. Son of Ken Meuleman.

ojitarian (ojitarian), Monday, 12 January 2004 22:07 (twenty-one years ago)

No, oji, grandson of Ken, son of Bob.

Ken played one Test - got a duck.

Bob played in the early 70's with WA as an opener. Career stymied by the likes of Derek Chadwick, Ken McAullay, Graeme Watson, and perhaps even Colin Milburn though Milburn may have finished his stint by the time R Meuleman "peaked". I remember him playing a few games without much success in 71-2.

Does anybody know why Andy Flower is not playing against Tassie. Is he injured or has he been dropped?

powwow, Tuesday, 13 January 2004 00:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, cheers pieman!

powwow - A. Flower is supposedly injured. Not much of a loss the way he has been going this season.

ojitarian (ojitarian), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 01:30 (twenty-one years ago)

CHeers oj.
Flower's contributions for SA this year are mysterious. Maybe he has lost the appetite for first class cricket.

SA are still in with a shot in this game. Tassie lead by 326 with three wickets in hand.

Magill HAW
What is he good for?
Absolutely nothing.....

REB

Tassie all out with lead of 429. Probably out of reach for SA. Blewett and Lehman would need to get 300 between them.

powwow, Tuesday, 13 January 2004 04:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Pffft. Boof will get them on his own.

ojitarian (ojitarian), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 05:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Looks like the Clingon batted well in both innings. He is highly regarded as a keeper too - a possible successor to Gilly?

ojitarian (ojitarian), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 05:18 (twenty-one years ago)

After another poor start, the South Aussies are making inroads into the
victory target. Cosgrove has started to open his shoulders and is 49*
with Fitzgerald in support.

Qld are close to first innings points against WA, but need the last
pair to get them there. Hauritz is still in on 80*, Dawes is the last
man, and they need a further 12 to reach their target. Casson has
a Michelle.

ojitarian (ojitarian), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 06:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Crap - Fitzy is out, Boof and mini-Boof have to make most of the runs
now if SA are to win.

ojitarian (ojitarian), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 06:58 (twenty-one years ago)

mini boof indeed. This kid is enough to give Vor nightmares for the next 15 years. Another lefted handed fat kid from Elizabeth who slaps the ball all over the ground. He just got out. It looks all over.
Boof will have to get 300 on his own.

powwow, Tuesday, 13 January 2004 07:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Not even Boof could do that on his own.

Not while still recovering from an injury, anyway . . .

tailender (tailender), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 08:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Boof to get 300 on his own??
He finishes the match with a combined total of 11.
Tassie walk it in. :-)

Big Dog (Big Dog), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 07:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, for once, I don't mind him failing. :-)

Excuse me for a moment:

*YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!*

Jolly well done, boys. Congratulations on a well deserved victory.

tailender (tailender), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 07:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Tassie on track for an appearance in the Shield final, by the looks of
things. A win in their next game (Qld at Bellerive) would just about
clinch it.
