jeter stats i'm not surprised to learn:
leads the league in swinging at the first pitch (37.3%)

i say as he pops the first pitch to left field
also wasn't surprised a few years ago when i discovered he led the league - by a large margin - in groundout-to-flyout ratio

hooooly shit burnett wtf

man against a team like this burnett will either strike out 12 or give up 3 homers in the first inning

so i'm reading the Yanks are gonna ship out their catcher of the future to rent Cliff Lee?!
― The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Friday, 9 July 2010 15:55 (fourteen years ago) link
or apparently - they are NOT gonna do that.
― The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Friday, 9 July 2010 15:56 (fourteen years ago) link
like 90% of scouts think he's not a catcher anyway
― ciderpress, Friday, 9 July 2010 16:07 (fourteen years ago) link
and this is actually kinda a weird trade because of that...by trading montero the yankees are finally admitting that he can't catch, since he'd be an untradably good prospect if he was a catcher, especially now that mauer's locked up in MIN
essentially the mariners have to be happy with the idea of montero at 1B/DH to do this
― ciderpress, Friday, 9 July 2010 16:22 (fourteen years ago) link
I was 110% sure the yankees were gonna move Montero for something this year.. Didnt think it was gonna be Cliff Lee, but there you go..
― mayor jingleberries, Friday, 9 July 2010 16:33 (fourteen years ago) link
yeah montero definitely had no place on the yankees, its kinda funny that they have their first elite hitting prospect in ages and they have to trade him away
― ciderpress, Friday, 9 July 2010 17:07 (fourteen years ago) link
'have to'
I can see Montero being a huge bust only because hes going to the Mariners. That and I tried to draft him as a keeper on my fantasy team, which turns gold into lead.
― mayor jingleberries, Friday, 9 July 2010 17:16 (fourteen years ago) link
well he's closer to the majors in seattle than he was in NY so that can't be bad for his fantasy status
i guess he'll be hitting in a park that steals a few would-be home runs though since he's a RH hitter
― ciderpress, Friday, 9 July 2010 17:28 (fourteen years ago) link
seriously, the mariners might as well send him straight to the big leagues. they can DH branyan if they want him to work on his 1B.
― ciderpress, Friday, 9 July 2010 17:31 (fourteen years ago) link
also the yankees have a prospect behind him who isn't AS GOOD of a hitter but he's been hitting really well in the minors and can actually play the position
― the resulting pussy stubble (J0rdan S.), Friday, 9 July 2010 17:33 (fourteen years ago) link
yeah romine is a legit good catching prospect now, so montero wasn't even their 'catcher of the future' anymore
― ciderpress, Friday, 9 July 2010 17:34 (fourteen years ago) link
baseball's brokest team steals one from the richest. lee to rangers lol.
― mayor jingleberries, Friday, 9 July 2010 21:05 (fourteen years ago) link
smoak!! holy...
― the resulting pussy stubble (J0rdan S.), Friday, 9 July 2010 21:06 (fourteen years ago) link
whats in the deal where ru seein it?
― johnny crunch, Friday, 9 July 2010 21:08 (fourteen years ago) link
Joelsherman1 i have learned deal done with #Rangers, Smoak and 3 others for Lee and reliever Mark Lowe #Rangers, #Mariners
― the resulting pussy stubble (J0rdan S.), Friday, 9 July 2010 21:08 (fourteen years ago) link
the '3 others' are kinda important here since montero's a slightly better hitting prospect than smoak...
― ciderpress, Friday, 9 July 2010 21:09 (fourteen years ago) link
the rangers have a super deep system
― the resulting pussy stubble (J0rdan S.), Friday, 9 July 2010 21:10 (fourteen years ago) link
you have to imagine that they're getting some pitchers back
― the resulting pussy stubble (J0rdan S.), Friday, 9 July 2010 21:11 (fourteen years ago) link
yea texas has a ton of quality pitching
― johnny crunch, Friday, 9 July 2010 21:12 (fourteen years ago) link
its probably either scheppers and 2 scrubs or two of texas's 2nd tier pitching prospects and a scrub
also this means chris davis will be the 1B on a playoff-caliber team haha
― ciderpress, Friday, 9 July 2010 21:17 (fourteen years ago) link
keithlaw No. RT @ryan_j_lewis: @keithlaw If you were running the Rangers, could you part with Smoak in this deal?
― the resulting pussy stubble (J0rdan S.), Friday, 9 July 2010 21:20 (fourteen years ago) link
shock! keith likes the prospect better!
― call all destroyer, Friday, 9 July 2010 21:21 (fourteen years ago) link
::was not clicking on this all day because lee to yanquis wld be too much right now::
― call all destroyer, Friday, 9 July 2010 21:22 (fourteen years ago) link
i think i agree with him tho -- they could've kept smoak, traded for a lesser starter (oswalt) and still won that division and made a good run at the WS
― the resulting pussy stubble (J0rdan S.), Friday, 9 July 2010 21:23 (fourteen years ago) link
cuz when you look at it, that team has a bunch of old ass hitters powering them right now, smoak is pretty important
they couldn't have fit oswalt into their budget though, they're already gonna be getting cash from the M's probably to fit lee who's being paid half as much
― ciderpress, Friday, 9 July 2010 21:25 (fourteen years ago) link
