and this is actually kinda a weird trade because of that...by trading montero the yankees are finally admitting that he can't catch, since he'd be an untradably good prospect if he was a catcher, especially now that mauer's locked up in MIN

essentially the mariners have to be happy with the idea of montero at 1B/DH to do this

yeah montero definitely had no place on the yankees, its kinda funny that they have their first elite hitting prospect in ages and they have to trade him away

I can see Montero being a huge bust only because hes going to the Mariners. That and I tried to draft him as a keeper on my fantasy team, which turns gold into lead.

well he's closer to the majors in seattle than he was in NY so that can't be bad for his fantasy status

i guess he'll be hitting in a park that steals a few would-be home runs though since he's a RH hitter

seriously, the mariners might as well send him straight to the big leagues. they can DH branyan if they want him to work on his 1B.

also the yankees have a prospect behind him who isn't AS GOOD of a hitter but he's been hitting really well in the minors and can actually play the position

yeah romine is a legit good catching prospect now, so montero wasn't even their 'catcher of the future' anymore

i have learned deal done with #Rangers, Smoak and 3 others for Lee and reliever Mark Lowe #Rangers, #Mariners

the '3 others' are kinda important here since montero's a slightly better hitting prospect than smoak...

the rangers have a super deep system

you have to imagine that they're getting some pitchers back

yea texas has a ton of quality pitching

its probably either scheppers and 2 scrubs or two of texas's 2nd tier pitching prospects and a scrub

also this means chris davis will be the 1B on a playoff-caliber team haha

i think i agree with him tho -- they could've kept smoak, traded for a lesser starter (oswalt) and still won that division and made a good run at the WS

cuz when you look at it, that team has a bunch of old ass hitters powering them right now, smoak is pretty important

they couldn't have fit oswalt into their budget though, they're already gonna be getting cash from the M's probably to fit lee who's being paid half as much
