series is nuts

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 00:11 (eleven years ago)

According to SweetSpot, the 11th 1-0 post-season game won with a solo home run. The first was in 1923, and the home run was hit by Casey Stengel.

(Sorry, can't get the NL game either, so this is how I fill my time. There are ten zillion more stations now than in the '70s, yet I got to see every playoff game then.)

clemenza, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 00:44 (eleven years ago)

It's only 2 games to 1, why have u ppl given it to the Sux already? Fister will fist em.

eclectic husbandry (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 16 October 2013 02:48 (eleven years ago)

This series has been TREMENDOUS

lag∞n, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 13:04 (eleven years ago)

I showed the Ortiz clip four times in class yesterday. It really is incredible. Once for Ortiz and the drama of the moment, once focussing on Hunter, once focussing on the cop, and a fourth time for the bullpen catcher.

Ortiz obviously added to his legend (exaggerated or not). If it's possible to not make a catch and add to your defensive legend (again, exaggerated or not), then I think Hunter did too.

clemenza, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 14:43 (eleven years ago)

I think by definition calling a player who is not HOF-caliber a "legend" is exaggerated.

eclectic husbandry (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 16 October 2013 14:44 (eleven years ago)

C'mon...again, even if you don't agree, the popular perception of Ortiz is that he's a legendary post-season performer. (If you're conceding that that's true and just disagreeing with the perception, that's fine.)

clemenza, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 14:47 (eleven years ago)

I don't know if Buehrle will ever go to the HOF, but he'll be legendary for me because of that Buehrle-meter play.

cops on horse (WilliamC), Wednesday, 16 October 2013 14:49 (eleven years ago)

Lots of players who aren't in the HOF are legendary for a variety of reasons: Mark Fidrych, Dusty Rhodes, Joe Pepitone, on and on and on. As someone who's regularly dismissing the HOF, you're attaching a great deal of importance to it on this one narrow point.

"(Kulpa's) single worst call might have come at the single worst possible time for the Tigers. Which doesn't really mean anything, except that baseball will drive you crazy."

can't believe the best hitter is batting second, a spot reserved for a speedy player who can lay down a bunt

k3vin k., Wednesday, 16 October 2013 19:22 (eleven years ago)

Friend who's been nonstop complaining about Jackson saw the lineup and said he hates it because it is an obvious panic move.

Andy K, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 19:32 (eleven years ago)

IS LEYLAND JUST GOING TO SIT THERE AND WATCH THE SEASON SLIP AWAY OR IS HE...WHAT THE FUCK? NOW he's doing something?! Don't like it. They had so much success during the season and this sudden, drastic move is pure panic. Spineless.
