it's only a couple years old. kind of intersting because the competitive balance picks can be traded, unlike regular picks

giants rumored to have interest in bartolo :
the couple times i saw bartolo take the plate (he was with the A's, playing an interleague game) were amazing. I'm not sure he even lifted the bat.

Kansas City received right-hander Liam Hendricks and catcher Erik Kratz in return for infielder Danny Valencia, according to Ken Rosenthal.

Not to say they're super similar but this trade deadline is like 08 when the pirates wanted like kemp and kershaw for maholm or duke or some piece of shit. Basically every team asked for kemp and kershaw now matter how shitty the target was

amaro is welcome to ask for whatever he wants, but that's silly. that's the entire dodgers system! three of the top 25 prospects in the game!
no one will pay anywhere near that much, and the phillies will be left with one more aging star and no prospects

Bucs-Bosox blockbuster?
The Pirates are willing to part with a club source called a “significant” package of prospects in a trade but don’t want to give up their very best minor leaguers because they would have Lester only for the short term.
The Pirates are willing to trade any of their prospects except right-handers Tyler Glasnow, Nick Kingham and Jameson Taillon, catcher Reese McGuire and outfielders Josh Bell and Austin Meadows.
Among the significant prospects the Pirates apparently would be willing to give up — in some combination — are right-handers Luis Heredia and Adrian Sampson, third baseman Wyatt Mathisen, shortstops Alen Hanson and Jacoby Jones and outfielder Harold Ramirez.
The potential exists for a blockbuster trade. The Pirates also have interest in a pair of Red Sox relievers — closer Koji Uehara and left-hander Andrew Miller — and right-handed hitting outfielder Jonny Gomes to platoon with rookie right fielder Gregory Polanco. Uehara, Miller and Carp are also eligible for free agency in November.

MLB Trade Rumors:
The Cardinals and Dodgers are the two teams that are most aggressively competing for Lester’s services, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. They’re also the most aggressive clubs on David Price, though it’s far from a given that the Rays will move their own left-handed ace.
An NL GM told Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe that he thinks the Cardinals, Pirates, Dodgers and Mariners are the primary suitors for Lester heading into Wednesday.

hmm...ramsey was definitely locked up so good to see them make a move, but i'm not so excited about masterson. his fastball has lost 2.6 MPH in the last year(!), and his best velocity games in 2014 barely eclipses his worst velocity game in 2013. :-/

pretty nice playoff rotation for the A's, and Yoenis perhaps not quite the slugger we thought he was. Ya gotta watch that Beane.
8:54am: Passan tweets that Oakland is also sending a competitive balance draft pick to the A’s in the trade, and Boston is sending cash to Oakland. The A’s landed the second pick in Comp Round B in last week’s lottery.
