which giants infielder massively overperforms this season? all of them again?

carthago delenda est (mayor jingleberries), Wednesday, 9 March 2016 01:17 (eight years ago) link

Brandon Belt, the guy is streaky has hell but he is now playing for a major contract and the Giants just haven't given it to him yet.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 9 March 2016 03:58 (eight years ago) link

maybe even Joe Panik, now that i think about it. he was hurt last year after putting up massive numbers. he will be on a mission this year to prove himself.

I feel for any brewer fan out there..

also had zero interest in tuning into the opening series with philly and cincy..

carthago delenda est (mayor jingleberries), Monday, 4 April 2016 22:18 (eight years ago) link

haha yes I am a dyed in the wool Brewer fan and my only thought here was "hey, it was way better than opening day last year", a game in which we were down 10-0 by the 4th inning

Bumgarner did not look good at all today.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 5 April 2016 06:09 (eight years ago) link

but wow, can this team score some runs, this is going to be fun.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 5 April 2016 06:09 (eight years ago) link

heh, check this fangraphs article speculating that bumgarner's neuroma issue on his plant foot is driving his recent poor performance:

http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/the-change-officially-worried-about-madison-bumgarner/

and then the comments section, where someone mentions that the neuroma is on bumgarner's left foot, and he's a lefty, so it's not affecting his plant foot at all, leading to eno sarris' "You are correct and Iā€™m upset with myself."

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 5 April 2016 20:21 (eight years ago) link

didn't see the Giants vs. Dodgers becasue i'm in the Los Angeles market and they black it out on DirecTV. great win and another 12 runs, sweet.

Bee OK, Friday, 8 April 2016 04:06 (eight years ago) link

Giants have all sorts of problems, scoring runs is not going to be one of them.

Bee OK, Saturday, 1 October 2016 02:16 (eight years ago) link

The Giants' feeling on the Cardinals-Reds brouhaha from Thursday night is, it's none of our business.

General manager Bobby Evans said Friday that it was not the Giants' place to call the league and opine whether the outcome at Busch Stadium, a 4-3 St. Louis victory, should be overturned.

There was no indication the Reds filed a formal protest arguing that Yadier Molina's game-winning double actually bounced over the left-field wall and should have been ruled an automatic double, which would have forced baserunner Matt Carpenter to stop at third. Instead, Carpenter scored to give St. Louis a crucial win impact the wild-card race and the Giants.

The Reds wanted a replay challenge but did not inform the umpires in time.
"There is no recourse for a third party," Evans said. "Our focus has to be here."

Giants fans hoped the Reds would protest the game. If the protest were upheld, Cincinnati and St. Louis would have to meet again to pick up the game from the point of the protest.

It made little sense for the Reds to protest. They are going home for the winter, and I can't imagine they want to fly to St. Louis to play Monday, knowing the whole thing could be finished on one pitch.

If Giants fans want to be upset with what happened, that's fine. But they probably should be more upset the Giants have gone 27-42 in the second half. Had they gone 34-35 they would have 91 wins, same as the Dodgers, and would have popped Champagne corks by now for reaching the postseason.

Bee OK, Saturday, 1 October 2016 02:37 (eight years ago) link

lol at the Dodgers

Spottie, Saturday, 1 October 2016 05:23 (eight years ago) link

all the Giants need to do is win one more game and they are in right?

Bee OK, Saturday, 1 October 2016 07:15 (eight years ago) link

In what? If they go 1-1, they could be in a play-in game -- or two -- before the WC game.

The Hon. J. Piedmont Mumblethunder (Dr Morbius), Saturday, 1 October 2016 13:39 (eight years ago) link

what i meant by in is, playing past Sunday. if the Giants just win out then that would be best and the other team will face Bumgarner.

Bee OK, Saturday, 1 October 2016 17:39 (eight years ago) link

this season Baseball ending would have been boring without the Wild Card games.

Bee OK, Saturday, 1 October 2016 17:40 (eight years ago) link

it really helps when the team you root for is in that mix.

Bee OK, Saturday, 1 October 2016 17:41 (eight years ago) link

well you're going against kershaw today so

k3vin k., Saturday, 1 October 2016 17:44 (eight years ago) link

the Giants do fine against Kershaw.

Bee OK, Saturday, 1 October 2016 20:24 (eight years ago) link

i know record wise it might say something different but watching those games they are always right there outside i think one game this year.

Bee OK, Saturday, 1 October 2016 20:25 (eight years ago) link

Bee OK, Saturday, 1 October 2016 20:25 (eight years ago) link

lowest ERA at AT&T park of all time, but ok

k3vin k., Saturday, 1 October 2016 20:28 (eight years ago) link

Enjoying Blach so far. Indeed, the first strikes are impressive. I nominate him to run 48 innings to another post-season glories, full of pinch hit HR and well timed wild pitches.

(A Bumgarner, Cueto, Shark, Moore, Blach rotation makes me confident right out of the gate for 2017)

Van Horn Street, Saturday, 1 October 2016 20:37 (eight years ago) link

Ty Blach for the 2016 Cy Young afaic.

Van Horn Street, Saturday, 1 October 2016 21:49 (eight years ago) link

what a game from Ty Blach.

Bee OK, Saturday, 1 October 2016 22:29 (eight years ago) link

i was on delay but what a game, in a must win environment.

Bee OK, Saturday, 1 October 2016 22:29 (eight years ago) link

this is why i truly love baseball, nothing like it.

Bee OK, Saturday, 1 October 2016 22:30 (eight years ago) link

a Bumgarner vs Syndergaard matchup is another reason why I love baseball.

Van Horn Street, Saturday, 1 October 2016 22:46 (eight years ago) link

what a place to be at. wish is for the division but this isn't bad.

Bee OK, Sunday, 2 October 2016 00:21 (eight years ago) link

Bee OK, Sunday, 2 October 2016 20:02 (eight years ago) link

what a season, could not be happier about the Giants making it this year.

Bee OK, Monday, 3 October 2016 00:55 (eight years ago) link

Mets must beat even-year evil

The Hon. J. Piedmont Mumblethunder (Dr Morbius), Monday, 3 October 2016 01:24 (eight years ago) link

You can't just beat even-year evil.

Van Horn Street, Monday, 3 October 2016 01:27 (eight years ago) link

that's correct, actually - it needs to be beaten, set on fire and encircled with salt & wiccan symbols meant to ward off demons
