"Today, the #Mets signed Kevin McReynolds to a one-year deal. McReynolds, 57, will take over in right, with Conforto staying in Las Vegas."

Ready for a new season/soap opera. No more injuries please? Does Ty Kelly deserve the 25th spot on the roster over Matt Reynolds? I don't know.

Glad to see my favorite Mets podcast, Panic City, is back as well: http://soundcloud.com/jykes7

Looking ahead, Mets have some leeway with this Syndergaard blister. Could give extra day and pitch him Sunday if needed.

Can confirm Seth Lugo has a partially torn UCL in his right elbow. But he does not need Tommy John surgery. For now, rest for Lugo.

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Tim Tebow hit a two-run homer in the first at-bat of his minor league baseball debut for the Class A Columbia Fireflies on Thursday night.

Tebow, the 2007 Heisman Trophy winner, drilled a 2-1 pitch off the railing in left-center field, where a strong wind had been blowing out all day.

The homer came off Augusta left-hander Dominique Mazza and sent the sellout crowd at Spirit Communications Park into a frenzy of cheers.

Fans shouted "Te-Bow! Te-Bow!'' after the former University of Florida and NFL quarterback fouled off a pitch.

The chants grew louder as Tebow circled the bases on his homer, pumping his fist as he rounded second base.

Jay Bruce playing for a contract. If everything goes well this year, I would not be surprised if the Astros or Rangers try and sign him next year. It will be interesting to see how Bruce's career goes in his 30s, if he stays healthy and productive, I think he has a decent shot at 400 HRs.

Mets probably want Bruce to have a nice season, but not TOO nice a season where the NY media/fanbase insists he is signed up for a big NY extension.

Plus Conforto is currently giving plenty of reasons why he should be out there every day.

Michael F Gill, Friday, 14 April 2017 20:43 (seven years ago) link

i mercifully saw v little of the last 3 games, but i'd say the bullpen is a work-in-progress.

Familia may not close upon his return Thursday

Bullpen should be better with Familia back today, and hopefully Lugo later.

Jay Bruce playing 1B tonight, giving room for Conforto to play in the outfield.

The hits just keep on coming. Syndergaard scratched from today's start. TC says it's most likely tendinitis in the biceps.

Newsday:

Collins said Syndergaard had been bothered by discomfort during the time since his last start Thursday. Though he told Collins on Thursday morning that he felt his condition had improved, the manager thought it prudent to go cautiously.

Syndergaard said he felt the discomfort against after his bullpen session on Monday and playing catch on Tuesday.

“I played catch yesterday, felt great playing catch,” Syndergaard said Thursday morning. “And it just kind of stiffens up once it gets cold. I couldn’t really lift my arm above my shoulder at that point.”

Syndergaard said that the discomfort is more toward the shoulder.

Collins contacted Harvey in the morning and the righthander said he’d have no problem pitching today.

The severity of Syndergaard’s condition is unknown, and Collins said he likely would be sent for medical tests. But he may not miss more than one start. The Mets aren’t putting him on the 10-day disabled list at present.

“It’s a little thing right now, but definitely don’t want it turn into a big thing,” Syndergaard said.

Such a bummer about all the injuries, and then selling off most of the veterans in the last two months. Only solace in the end was getting to see extended looks at all the rookies/young guys. Still going to say I am looking forward to 2018 even though I have no idea what deals will be made in the off season.

which doesn't mean much of anything except that he's the sort of good guy and minors manager the mets aren't usually able to attract

Among the factors Jeff Wilpon cited in counting David Wright's insurance covered salary as part of the payroll is the cost of the policy, "which is not cheap."

— Mike Puma (@NYPost_Mets) January 23, 2018

Jeff Wilpon said the Mets do not reinvest their David Wright insurance money back into the payroll because they must pay for the policy and for 25% of Wright's contract, and don't want to get caught way over budget in the event that Wright does return.
