Oh Plaschkepaws:
"After all these years of ripping Giants fans for supporting the juiced Barry Bonds, we are now them."
Paul Lo Duca, Kevin Brown, Eric Gagne... I'm sure I'm forgetting some more. Here's a gem:
And when Dodgers officials decided to trade Lo Duca, the report suggests, one of the reasons wasn't his own use of steroids, but the fact that he apparently had stopped taking them.
"Got off the steroids. . . . Took away a lot of hard line drives," the report quotes from notes of an internal discussion by the officials in 2003. "Can get comparable value back would consider trading. . . . If you do trade him, will get back on the stuff and try to show you he can have a good year. That's his makeup."

i was at a bar last night postgame, loud music, no one talking, but everyone paused and started chanting "man-ny, man-ny!" when espn replayed the pinch hit GS at 11:30 or whatever time it was. i don't think plaschke's plea for hatred is registering with the dodger faithful tbh.

I got a lovely bobblehead, hand painted with care by a Chinese slave in Hong Kong.
I was glad I was at the game because apparently this happened:
Manny Ramirez just hit his most dramatic home run as a Dodger, a first-pitch gand slam coming off the bench in a tie game on Manny bobble-head night — and TV blew it. On Time Warner Cable on the Westside, at least, the picture froze while Manny was preparing to pinch hit and the Reds were warming up a new pitcher. The TV stuttered a bit, then went to commercial. When Prime Ticket came back on, Manny was in the dugout being mobbed by teammates. He ended up taking two curtain calls. "The noise was absolutely deafening," Vin Scully just said, recalling the moment. Loudest crowd in 20 years, he adds — an allusion to the Kirk Gibson World Series home run.
― mayor jingleberries, Thursday, 23 July 2009 16:44 (fifteen years ago) link
So is Vin all aboard the Manny bandwagon?
As much as I admired him, Vin HATED Bonds, the usual cool level-headed (and never playing a homer) Scully became a vitriol-incensed, lunatic... especially as Bonds approached Aaron's mark.
Let me go dig up his quote...

http://articles.latimes.com/2006/apr/03/sports/sp-bonds3
"I would just as soon it not happen against the Dodgers," Scully said. "With Aaron, it was a privilege to be there when he did it. It was just a great moment. With Bonds, no matter what happens now, it will be an awkward moment. That's the best word I can think of now. If I had my druthers, I would rather have that awkward moment happen to somebody else."
DO YOU FEEL THAT VITRIOLOUS SCREED?

― He was only 21 years old when he 16 (Alex in SF), Thursday, 23 July 2009 16:59 (fifteen years ago) link
Scully shouldn't be throwing the word "druthers" around like that. He needs to get under control.

Two years. Plus one month.
That's how long the ride with Manny Ramirez lasted.
It started out like a drag race, with Manny bursting out of the gate, a fire lit under him.
53 games. 17 home runs. 53 runs batted in. a .396 batting average.
Little did we know that the fire that was lit was fueled by steroids, lies, and greed.
And soon, the fire sputtered out, mere weeks into his first full season with the Dodgers.
The sparks flew here and there, but even those sparks were mostly mysterious injuries, ill-timed slumps, and a power outage as mystifying as it was predictable.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers soldiered on, with young All-Stars carrying the weight of an entire city on their shoulders.
You already know their names.
Ethier.
Kemp.
Loney.
Broxton.
Padilla.
Inspiring players. Honorable players. And more than that.
Clean players.
Not a whiff of taint among them.
Just the faces of courage and resilience in the crumbling shadow of Mannywood.
An empire over before it even got started.

fucking loved this dude.. I got to enjoy him during his last great run.. that 2008 season as a dodger when he UTTERLY DESTROYED the NL was fucking magic. the events that got him to LA were all =\ but fuck it I dont live in Boston and I didnt care.. that first game he played at Dodger Stadium was probably the loudest craziest crowd I have ever seen at a game.. and he was like 0-4.
