stroman is from long island, i don't think he'll mind playing for the mets

weird that it would be *two* ptbnl. how closely do you follow the Mets farm system – you got thoughts on the two guys the Jays just got?

The tenth-best homer rate among qualified starters in the juiced ball era for an A-ball guy and a guy struggling with homers in Triple-A, seems worth it for the Mets. Weird return for the Jays.— Eno Sarris (@enosarris) July 28, 2019

The projected BABIP for Stroman on various systems is .307-.310. The Mets have allowed a .308 BABIP this year. Focus on the homer suppression, which seems real, since it’s happened over his whole career, and the BABIP/infield defense thing doesn’t seem to be a big deal.— Eno Sarris (@enosarris) July 28, 2019

Hearing same. Wheeler also possibility, and Bauer might be as well. Tim noted Bumgarner in earlier tweet. HOU on Bum’s no-trade list, but there is incentive for him to approve a deal. Player traded mid-season ineligible for qualifying offer, exempt from draft-pick compensation. https://t.co/6fWB2NpTCC— Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) July 30, 2019

― na (NA), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 14:13 (five years ago) link
It makes a lot of sense for the Indians, after seeing who they get in return. For the Reds and Padres, not so much, I'm still a bit confused.
― NoTimeBeforeTime, Wednesday, 31 July 2019 14:30 (five years ago) link
Reds have a bunch of outfielders right now and getting rid of Puig opens up a slot. They now have a couple months to see what Josh Van Meter and Phil Ervin can do, as both have seemed promising at times.
From what I am gathering is that Trammell's AA struggles and his throwing arm might have made him slide to the one to go.
I think the take is that Bauer is a re-load for next years rotation. Would not be surprised if Tanner Roark moves on today.
― earlnash, Wednesday, 31 July 2019 15:03 (five years ago) link
puig's contract is up at the end of this year, while bauer's goes through next seasonpadres have way too many infielders so reyes wasn't going to get enough playing time, particularly given his weak defense
i agree san diego's take seems light but those are the comments i've seen
― na (NA), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 15:08 (five years ago) link
does this make Cleveland better right now tho? they gave up a solid SP for two decent outfielders (one who should be a DH) and prospects. they def came out on top in this deal, imho, but this looks like a half measure in two directions. was Bauer that expendable for them?
― Mad Piratical (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 15:15 (five years ago) link
cleveland desperately needed outfield/DH power and they're banking a little too much on kluber and/or carrasco returning strong
but mostly they didn't want to pay bauer $20+ million in his final year of arbitration next season and this gives them a face-saving way out

Honestly, I feel good about the Orioles standing pat rather than giving up the competent part of the team for garbage. Villar, Mancini, Alberto, Givens, etc. make the 2019 team a lot more fun to watch, and just for that their value to the Orioles is higher than their trade value on the market. And I am not on board with the theory that the team should actually strive to lose 120 games and "beat" the Tigers to the #1 draft pick.

VHS: What is it you're seeing in Derek Fisher? Just looking at his career box, I'm missing it.
Having said that, on the call-in show last week, after the team let Pompey go, one of the hosts said that the Jays, because of Bautista and Encarnacion, should know better than most franchises the danger of giving up on someone too soon. So I guess Fisher's the other side of the that.
― clemenza, Thursday, 1 August 2019 16:47 (five years ago) link
Joe Pos with a neat observation on Greinke - he's not the only HOF'er (lets assume) to play for 6 different teams, but he might be the only to switch teams so often in his prime. Bobby Bonds and Sheffield maybe come close but its not like Zack, where he's pretty clearly been in his 'prime' state for nearly his whole career (minus a couple of seasons I guess)
― frogbs, Thursday, 1 August 2019 17:52 (five years ago) link
xp Fisher was never going to develop nicely in already stacked Houston. I think he is a fine project that will be worth 1-2 WARs in a position of need (outfield) for next few controlled years to come. Acuna he is not, but I am not even sure Sanchez + Biagini combined were worth 1 WAR over the last 2 seasons, in positions the Jays have more depth in.
