i think it's pretty cool that the reds and mets are making bold moves toward competing next year or making outlandish runs this year! i think they might be kidding themselves, but at least it's fun

pretty fuckin weird how all these first-place teams with obvious holes didn't make better offers tho

mookieproof, Wednesday, 31 July 2019 16:54 (five years ago) link

tony kemp to the cubs, martin maldonado to the astros

sucks that i have to root against tony kemp now

it also doesn't seem like there are many truly available great options this season

na (NA), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 19:26 (five years ago) link

like my big hope for the cubs would be signing ... whit merrifield

na (NA), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 19:26 (five years ago) link

i guess the bright side on pomeranz is that surely his 1.97 HR/9 will drop (?)

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 31 July 2019 19:46 (five years ago) link

yeoooooooow

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 31 July 2019 19:54 (five years ago) link

i knew that miller park was a hitters park and oracle is not, but did not realize oracle is by far the lowest HRs/game in the game. so yeah, this could get pretty ugly

but even then, even in an extreme hitters park, you'd hope that he won't continue giving up 1.97 HR/game, because that is awful. maybe he has been incredibly unlucky this year?

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 31 July 2019 19:55 (five years ago) link

you know a pitcher is good when you have to count on them being incredibly unlucky so far and for that bad luck to suddenly stop, in order for them to be a viable SP

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 31 July 2019 19:56 (five years ago) link

impressive move by the giants to unload both pomeranz and melancon

#Cubs get Nicholas Castellanos, source tells The Athletic.

Your 2019 leaders in WHIP:
1-Justin Verlander 0.81
2-Zack Greinke 0.94
5-Gerrit Cole 1.00

That's your Game 1-2-3 starters in Houston. Scary.

Astros heavy favorites unless injury strikes. Holy shit

you know a pitcher is good when you have to count on them being incredibly unlucky so far and for that bad luck to suddenly stop, in order for them to be a viable SP

the Brewers are incredibly desperate for starting pitching right now

Jedd don’t call me Gyorko apparently headed to Dodgers

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 31 July 2019 20:24 (five years ago) link

xp I see that!

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 31 July 2019 20:24 (five years ago) link

I mean three of their SP went on the DL within a week, including the one guy who wasn't a horrible disappointment

frogbs, Wednesday, 31 July 2019 20:25 (five years ago) link

Greinke signed through '21. Is making $31.5M this year, will be paid $32M in '20 and '21.

Tanner Roark to A's

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 20:37 (five years ago) link

wonder if the prospects the Astros sent were any good, they're probably just thrilled to be rid of that contract. they got a playoff game out of it at least.

still bummed that Seth Beer hasn't come to the Brewers (yet)

frogbs, Wednesday, 31 July 2019 20:44 (five years ago) link

arizona gets houston's 3rd, 4th, 5th and like 20th best prospects. hate to not get tucker or whitley, and bukauskas has had a rough season, but that's pretty good

also: fuck the pirates

Braves get right-handed closer Shane Greene from the Tigers for left-hander Joey Wentz and outfielder Travis Demeritte.

Today's game a good example of how badly they need that closer.

Manfred Hemming-Hawing (WmC), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 21:38 (five years ago) link

I will be bandwagoning hard for Greinke to earn a World Series title.

dombrowski.jpg

One of Dombrowski's strangest quotes of the day: "If we can get in and play a one-game playoff -- for example, Houston made big trades today. They’re really good. They were good beforehand. If we play Houston, it will be in the playoffs, right? So we’ll see what happens."

On a conference call, Jays GM Ross Atkins says the team's moves have 'turned 14 years of control into 42 years of control'.

gonna be tough for the marketing folks to work that into a slogan.

like to see the Twins (or the Rays) win the pennant tbqh

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 21:54 (five years ago) link

Yeah I didn’t see much of a future for Stroman and Biagini and Sogard and Hudson with the Jays, trading Sanchez is a little more confusing.

Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 31 July 2019 22:06 (five years ago) link

Anyway, there ain't much to dislike from a Jays perspective imo.

Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 31 July 2019 22:23 (five years ago) link

they could've/should've gotten way more for stroman alone

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 31 July 2019 22:30 (five years ago) link

I don't know about 'way' more, but yeah more perhaps.

Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 31 July 2019 22:42 (five years ago) link
