son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Saturday, 13 September 2014 17:32 (ten years ago)

shiiiit i can't wait for NLDS B Game 4!!

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Saturday, 13 September 2014 19:37 (ten years ago)

Cub broadcasters just spent 20 mins talking about Nate Silver's Secret Sauce postseason formula from ten years ago, until someone emailed them that it proved unreliable.

son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 25 September 2014 01:17 (ten years ago)

so Nats w/ homefield, play the WC winner first

son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Saturday, 27 September 2014 02:11 (ten years ago)

Now someone explain what happens if the Tigers, Royals and A's all end up with the same record.

Okay, Tigers and Royals play a one-game playoff. A’s go to the loser of that game because they lost the season series against both teams.

son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Saturday, 27 September 2014 13:59 (ten years ago)

got tickets to ALcentral @ baltimore game 5, now i have to awkwardly root for a game 5

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Saturday, 27 September 2014 14:41 (ten years ago)

angels could be the most vulnerable 100 win team since..........the angels, 08

johnny crunch, Saturday, 27 September 2014 17:22 (ten years ago)

The still laughably underdetailed mlb.com PS sked -- they don't know what time the WS games are starting yet, huh?

http://m.mlb.com/postseason-schedule

The most annoying way in which the postseason is unlike the season: StL and Dodgers getting 4 days off, just ludicrous.

son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Monday, 29 September 2014 14:20 (ten years ago)

at least they've done away with the extra in-series days off, i.e. the Let Sabathia Pitch All the Games schedule

mookieproof, Monday, 29 September 2014 14:23 (ten years ago)

The Tigers and Orioles get three days off, is there really a difference? The division winners all get plenty of time to set up their rotations, does it matter if it's three or four days of rest?

NoTimeBeforeTime, Monday, 29 September 2014 14:27 (ten years ago)

I understand the reasons for it. I'd kinda prefer no offdays ever, I like exhaustion and dance marathon-style extremity.

son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Monday, 29 September 2014 14:30 (ten years ago)

The days off are also a nice reward for WINNING your division rather than "making the playoffs".

NoTimeBeforeTime, Monday, 29 September 2014 14:35 (ten years ago)

Brisbee uses his formula to rank the 25 potential World Series matchups (then disagrees with his #1)

http://www.sbnation.com/mlb/2014/9/29/6852451/world-series-matchups-ranking-mlb

son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Monday, 29 September 2014 15:02 (ten years ago)

yeah i don't know how to feel about the nationals either

mookieproof, Monday, 29 September 2014 15:45 (ten years ago)

I know how Fox wd feel about a Beltway World Series, so that's a plus

son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Monday, 29 September 2014 15:59 (ten years ago)

Screw the Royals for '85 and for making us the new sad sacks of baseball who can't make the playoffs.

None of these teams get much sympathy from me (except for PIT) so I want to see stars vs stars, either LAD vs LAA or PIT vs LAA (Cutch vs Trout).

NoTimeBeforeTime, Monday, 29 September 2014 16:06 (ten years ago)

lol 71/79 has been the main thing on my mind re o's/pirates and i was born in 2007

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Monday, 29 September 2014 16:11 (ten years ago)

now there's an added ravens/steelers rivalry factor but i don't think most people give a fuck

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Monday, 29 September 2014 16:13 (ten years ago)

WAS has some (should be) stars too you know: Strasburg, Rendon, Zimmermann, Harper (even with the off-year)

KC-STL wouldn't do anything for me unless Don Denkinger was on the crew, without replay options. (btw are the replay rules exactly the same as in the reg season?)

son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Monday, 29 September 2014 16:20 (ten years ago)

werth i starrier than harper rn

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Monday, 29 September 2014 16:28 (ten years ago)

is

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Monday, 29 September 2014 16:28 (ten years ago)

I'm rooting for Nationals vs Tigers, the auto-industry vs the bureaucrats, lots of stars and none of the game will be late for me.

Van Horn Street, Monday, 29 September 2014 20:02 (ten years ago)

@MLB
.@Orioles to host @tigers in Game 1 of #ALDS Thursday on TBS at either 5:37pm ET or 6:07pm ET, depending on winner of AL #WildCard Game.

@beckjason
12:07 or 3:07 Friday depending on NL Wild Card winner. RT @Ali_Maki88: @beckjason anything on Game 2?

and joe west for the nl wild card game

mookieproof, Tuesday, 30 September 2014 01:06 (ten years ago)

seriously fuck this scheduling shit just pick a time and stop making it super difficult for me to plan going to a playoff game

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Tuesday, 30 September 2014 01:12 (ten years ago)

is it so hard for you, a seven-year-old, to clear your schedule

mookieproof, Tuesday, 30 September 2014 01:15 (ten years ago)

why do you have to bring my age into this

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Tuesday, 30 September 2014 01:21 (ten years ago)

First graders have homework and are juggling soccer and a multitude of additional extracurricular activities these days. It's no joke.

Such foul language, though.

Andy K, Tuesday, 30 September 2014 01:28 (ten years ago)

so they do have some times, from MLB site:

FS1

Saturday, October 4
9:30 PM NLDS Gm 2 Cardinals @ Dodgers Pitchers TBD
MLBN
5:30 PM NLDS Gm 2 NL Wild Card @ Nationals Pitchers TBD
FS1 or MLBN

Sunday, October 5
3:30 PM ALDS Gm 3 Orioles @ Tigers Pitchers TBD

Bee OK, Tuesday, 30 September 2014 02:23 (ten years ago)

ET

i know Joe Buck said during the 49ers game that he was doing Cardinals/Dodgers in Los Angeles, so it makes sense that game two will be on MLB Network, so he will be back for game three on Monday Night after doing Football on Sunday.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 30 September 2014 02:25 (ten years ago)

i'm sorry, who?

son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 30 September 2014 03:22 (ten years ago)

Baseball was mentioned during a football broadcast?

mookieproof, Tuesday, 30 September 2014 15:11 (ten years ago)

Dodger fans 'invade' other teams' ballparks? Maybe just SD/SF, and i'm sure they leave early there too.

son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 30 September 2014 16:10 (ten years ago)

Can confirm Orioles invasions.

Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 30 September 2014 18:11 (ten years ago)

Oakland County Detroit contingents definitely invade several stadiums.

Andy K, Tuesday, 30 September 2014 20:01 (ten years ago)

pittsburgh fans are known for such things, but i'm not sure the pirates are part of it so much. they did take over the hot tub in arizona this year tho

mookieproof, Tuesday, 30 September 2014 20:08 (ten years ago)

There should be a category, worth -5 points, for that.

Andy K, Tuesday, 30 September 2014 21:09 (ten years ago)

I picked my bracket on mlb.com. Wasn't asked for an e-mail address or anything, so I don't know how they're going to get my $10,000 to me, but anyway:

A's over Royals
--------------------
Tigers over Orioles
A's over Angels
--------------------
A's over Tigers

Pirates over Giants
--------------------
Dodgers over Cards
Nationals over Pirates
--------------------
Dodgers over Nationals

Dodgers over A's

Spent a minute on it. Not a lot of thought, and I'm not sure it matters.

clemenza, Tuesday, 30 September 2014 21:44 (ten years ago)

are you mlb.tv user? i guessed that's what they used.

Van Horn Street, Tuesday, 30 September 2014 22:30 (ten years ago)

Here's mine:

A's over Royals
---
Angels over Royals
Tigers over Orioles
--
Tigers over Angels

Pirates over Giants
---
Nationals over Pirates
Dodgers over Cardinals
---
Nationals over Dodgers

Nationals over Tigers.

Van Horn Street, Tuesday, 30 September 2014 22:31 (ten years ago)

I have logged in to watch free games, so that must be it. (Although I didn't think I was logged in when I filled out the bracket.)

Dodgers-Nationals, if it does come down to that--long way to go--was the toughest call for me. And if the Nationals do take it all, that'd be great, they're a young, interesting team.

clemenza, Tuesday, 30 September 2014 22:36 (ten years ago)

poor royals wait 30 years to make the playoffs and then lose twice

k3vin k., Tuesday, 30 September 2014 22:37 (ten years ago)

xp

k3vin k., Tuesday, 30 September 2014 22:37 (ten years ago)

Van Horn Street, Tuesday, 30 September 2014 22:38 (ten years ago)

Hmmm...the Nationals aren't all that young:

http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/rosters/_/sort/average_age/order/false

At least the core of the team seems young.

clemenza, Tuesday, 30 September 2014 22:40 (ten years ago)

I don't predict these, but rooting A's and Pirates the next two nights, Dodgers and Orioles in those Div Series.

son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 30 September 2014 23:48 (ten years ago)

will we be lighting any mups this year?

mookieproof, Wednesday, 1 October 2014 00:00 (ten years ago)

Trying to remember my pics from the reddit comp....

Royals over As

Os over Tigers

Angels over Royals

Angels over Os

-----------

Giants over Pirates

Dodgers over Cards

Nats over Giants

Dodgers over Nats

--------

Angels over Dodgers

LA at KC gets the primetime slot tomorrow ... I'm assuming this is because they want the LA markets to watch the games while there's still a chance (seeing as both LA teams are on the ropes) (even though it's not prime time on the West Coast) and not because TBS wants to draw people into the Royals Cinderella story.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Saturday, 4 October 2014 21:29 (ten years ago)

When was the last time a Royals game at KC was on a national broadcast in primetime anyway? Sorry if this is a dumb question, and they get a guaranteed ESPN game of the week each year.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Saturday, 4 October 2014 21:31 (ten years ago)

The top five teams in runs scored (MLB): either didn't make the playoffs or eliminated.

Andy K, Monday, 6 October 2014 15:36 (ten years ago)

#2 team in wRC+ (dodgers) still hanging around though (and #6 orioles)

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Monday, 6 October 2014 19:50 (ten years ago)

Hey, all the Series games start at 8ish ET! Didn't see that coming.
