the best shape of their lives: spring training 2015

Ryan Howard is better

“His body right now looks like it will allow him to be more productive and have a good spring training camp,” manager Ryne Sandberg said after Wednesday's workout, the second of the spring with the full squad. “Just running the bases he even looks better. It looks like he has a much better chance of scoring from second base, much better getting to the cut-off spot playing first base. There should be some more range there with the way he looks from the waist down.”

or, yknow, its spring training, but why let the most probable reality get in the way of good fun

that thrown bat photo should be in the fucking smithsonian

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 3 March 2015 23:17 (ten years ago)

Rodriguez grounded out and popped out in two at-bats against the pitching machine. He wasn't alone—the likes of Brian McCann, Jacoby Ellsbury, Stephen Drew, and Mark Teixeira all went hitless, and Chris Young struck out. But only Rodriguez heard jeers from multiple (two) fans:

"Boooo! Have fun in Wilkes-Barre!" a fan shouted as Rodriguez stepped to the plate, referring to the Yankees' Triple-A affiliate. After A-Rod flied out, the same fan screamed, "Just like the playoffs!"

Another fan in the same section joined in, yelling: "That'll get you to .170 this year!"

slothroprhymes, Tuesday, 3 March 2015 23:41 (ten years ago)

I hope he does very well and troll them all.

Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 4 March 2015 03:47 (ten years ago)

i want him to go full heel -- tattoos of syringes, dollar-sign jewelry, flexing at hecklers etc.

and then go buy the wilkes-barre team

mookieproof, Wednesday, 4 March 2015 04:06 (ten years ago)

would be fine with that tbh long as the yankees overall still blow it out their collective asses

There are things that can become more ragged than the final two innings of a Grapefruit League game. But I can't think of any.

"With Rollins at shortstop and Juan Uribe at third base, the left side of the Dodgers' infield is set." lol ok dude

polyphonic, Wednesday, 11 March 2015 22:48 (ten years ago)

luckily we have prospect god corey seager waiting to take over

also re weaver.. man I know most pitchers generally lose their fastball but holy shit. he's not even that 'old'.

I bet the angels are happy as shit he gave them a hometown discount or they'd have 3 albatrosses to deal with.

panettone for the painfully alone (mayor jingleberries), Thursday, 12 March 2015 00:33 (ten years ago)

yeah it was from an article on seager.

uribe and rollins are both pretty good for their age i guess

polyphonic, Thursday, 12 March 2015 00:55 (ten years ago)

uribe's resurgence in the past two years is inexplicable

his defense is what he hangs his hat on.. the left side of the infield is old as shit but the defense plus kendrick and a-gon should be great.

Cactus League managers & executives discuss 'who to build a team around': http://m.mlb.com/news/article/113014540/lyle-spencer-angels-outfielder-mike-trout-tops-list-of-most-coveted-players

Which AL manager said: "He's not a kid, but Miggy (Cabrera) is the guy I want in my lineup, the best hitter in the game. I think he'll play a long time, because he loves the game and plays the right position."

Which NL general manager said: "Adam Jones is a five-tool guy who comes to beat you every day and is a great leader. I love Trout, but I just love Jones a little more."

i'm gonna go with yost/stewart

mookieproof, Tuesday, 17 March 2015 16:30 (ten years ago)

the adam jones bit is thoroughly cokedreams for many reasons, not least of which is winning a fucking golden glove with 2 defensive runs saved over a guy with 14 in that metric

at least with miggy you can argue he /had/ been the best player in baseball for several different years

slothroprhymes, Tuesday, 17 March 2015 17:52 (ten years ago)

"Swihart is everything you're looking for behind the plate -- advanced defensively and a weapon offensively," an NL GM said of Boston's heralded prospect.
