"We won it a couple years ago, and we're horse[bleep]," Guillen said, according to the Chicago Tribune. "The Cubs haven't won in [100] years, and they're the [bleeping] best. [Bleep] it, we're good. [Bleep] everybody. We're horse[bleep], and we're going to be horse[bleep] the rest of our lives, no matter how many World Series we win.
"We are the [bleep] of Chicago. We're the Chicago [bleep]. We have the worst owner [Jerry Reinsdorf]. The guy's got seven [bleeping] rings, and he's the [bleeping] horse[bleep] owner."
Guillen brought up Elia, the former Cubs manager who blew his gasket over what he considered to be ungrateful, unforgiving and unsupportive Cubs fans in an infamous tirade that recently marked its 25th anniversary.
"How about the Cubs celebrating that Lee Elia bull[bleep]? How many times do I curse people out? I will make a lot of money with my [stuff]. I have to keep going because in the future Ozzie will need money, and I can say, 'Here, give me money, here's the 10-year anniversary of my time I called [Jay] Mariotti stuff and the time I went on the radio and cursed out Mike North,' " Guillen said.

LOL, Ozzie: "We've been covered by ladies for a long time, especially this ballclub, and I've never heard comments about the ladies on not respecting them. We just did it for fun. Hopefully, I'm not going to say we learn from this lesson because I don't feel guilty. I don't think we did anything illegal."

Sox finish embarrassment of Twins Kirby Puckett rolls over in grave Game recap from Monday, June 9, 2008
White Sox 7, Twins 5
At US Cellular Field
Monday, June 9
Paul Konerko is raking, Joe Crede is on fire, and now even Nick Swisher has begun to hit as the Sox completed a 7-0 home stand and increased their lead over the Twins to a MLB-best bazillion games.
Sox at the plate
Swisher homered from both sides of the plate. He was the first Sox slugger to accomplish the feat since future first-ballot Hall of Famer Jose Valentin.
Sox on the mound
John Danks didn't have his best stuff, and Bobby Jenks made it interesting, but the Sox offense is so hot Mark Prior would win on this team.
Twins at the plate
Michael Cuddyer drove in three runs, but that's really no big deal. These days Crede drives in three runs from the bench.
Twins on the mound
Closer Joe Nathan didn't see any action and Livan Hernandez didn't start and I have never heard of anybody else who pitches for the Twins. For what it's worth, Glen Perkins started and Matt Guerrier picked up the loss.
Next up for the Sox
The Sox hope to remain hot against Detroit's Triple-A pitching staff.
Number of the Game 3
"Just missed um's" Hawk Harrelson thought the Sox had to go with their three home runs Monday afternoon.
Quote of the game
"I think I got me a new, young, favorite-guy-to-watch-on-another-team player." -- Sox announcer Hawk Harrelson, bestowing quite an honor on Minnesota's Carlos Gomez.

"We are putting him on the DL today. The great thing is coaches can coach on the DL. The other great thing is when you are in that poor of shape to begin with, your rehab doesn't have to be that extensive. Basically, we are trying to get him to the point where he can climb five steps." --White Sox general manager Kenny Williams on pitching coach Don Cooper straining his hamstring in the dugout.
"Coop said his rehab will last five years because the program is to lay around and do nothing. He's pre-habbing since he's been with the White Sox. It's amazing that happened, because he's been pre-habbing. You just hate to see a pitching coach go down like that." --Konerko
"Let me tell you something, it was about an eight-hour laugh, and at one point I almost felt sorry for him for the abuse he was taking. If it were anyone else, we probably would have had some sympathy, but it was Coop." --Kenny Williams (Scott Merkin, MLB.com)
Konerko's quote is pure gold.

Sheehan:
Bobby Jenks is a very good pitcher, but last night he made a couple of inexplicable decisions in critical situations that helped him blow the save. Coming on in the eighth with a 6-4 lead, one out, and a runner on third base, he quickly got ahead 0-2 on Carlos Gomez. He then threw Gomez, who has a personal strike zone as big as all outdoors, a fastball down the middle that he lined into right for a single. Carlos Gomez on an 0-2 count is 11-for-70 with 39 strikeouts. He is nearly four times as likely to strike out as to get a hit. In that situation, you throw him a pitch—maybe two—that he can't reach without going through customs. That was a terrible decision, and the Twins made him pay for it.
Jenks got ahead of the next batter, Denard Span, 0-2. Span isn't quite the free swinger Gomez is—Hugh Hefner isn't quite the free swinger Carlos Gomez is—but once again, Jenks threw away his advantage by throwing a fastball down and over the middle of the plate. Span yanked it past Paul Konerko for a game-tying triple.
He then goes on to lambaste playing Griffey in CF.

tho really you're right -- just because the dude resembles Soriano doesn't mean he has to BE Soriano when it comes to BB

can't assume I'm judging him on one clutchy swing, either! kid's got game, and has shown that virtually all year. mediocre fielding numbers, but fuck a numbers, shows flashes of brilliance in the field which will almost surely become more frequent.

A 27 year-old rookie

xpost!
Reyes was 21, 22 when he couldn't get on base. Mid 20s is a longshot age for having much of a OBP spike.
He's the kind of unfinished player, at best, who ppl annoyingly like to say is "in the conversation" for Rookie of the Year, when he's not.

I didn't know that was Ramirez's 4th slam; Buster Olney will write that David Wright should take Clutch Clutchy lessons from Alexei.

from last night's BP chat:
Silver Sox (Golden Baseball League) wonders, "Is there any symbolic meaning behind Leyland's choice to start Freddy Garcia? It reminds me of the scene in The Godfather: Part II when Michael Corleone shows up to the Grand Jury Hearing with Frankie Pentangeli's brother from Sicily."

Guillen announced that Javier Vazquez would get the Game 1 start against the Rays.
"I hope I make the rotation before I start drinking more," he joked.
