Bucs win late off the bullpen

skateboards are the new combover (Dr Morbius), Monday, 5 October 2015 12:12 (nine years ago)

is it cool to drill arrieta every time he bats y/n

mookieproof, Monday, 5 October 2015 12:48 (nine years ago)

toss up. i don't know who to root for, either.

1998 ball boy (Karl Malone), Monday, 5 October 2015 12:58 (nine years ago)

Voted Pirates because I'm rooting Pirates, but no idea on prediction.

Exit, pursued by Yogi Berra (WilliamC), Monday, 5 October 2015 13:00 (nine years ago)

feel like I gotta go with the team whose starter has allowed exactly 9 earned runs since the break, only 2 of which were dingers

slothroprhymes, Monday, 5 October 2015 13:52 (nine years ago)

This is going to be amazing. I hope the winner kicks NL ass in the next two series.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Monday, 5 October 2015 16:45 (nine years ago)

as long as the Mets are alive, i want the Cubs done

“Be ready for a sea of black,” the heckler wrote, adding the hashtag “#GoingToEatYouAlive.”

Arrieta quickly responded:

slothroprhymes, Monday, 5 October 2015 18:50 (nine years ago)

hahaha, nice

1998 ball boy (Karl Malone), Monday, 5 October 2015 18:52 (nine years ago)

idk pirates bc their window might be closing (???) but the cubs bc (???)

How Butch, I mean (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Monday, 5 October 2015 22:55 (nine years ago)

the cubs are in the process of turning into the 95-2007 yankees; they don't need a head start

also their fans (except for nomar obvs) are pretty insufferable after a century of losing -- imagine what it'll be like when they win

(tbh i really like bryant & hendricks and it's hard to hate on arrieta. fuck coghlan forever tho)

mookieproof, Monday, 5 October 2015 23:27 (nine years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Tuesday, 6 October 2015 00:01 (nine years ago)

Pirates. Actually, of all the possible WS matchups, Pirates Astros would delight me the most.

Van Horn Street, Tuesday, 6 October 2015 01:42 (nine years ago)

i want the Pirates to win the whole damn thing.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 6 October 2015 01:54 (nine years ago)

yeah same.

Van Horn Street, Tuesday, 6 October 2015 02:01 (nine years ago)

I'd like the Pirates to win the WS, but any combo of Pirates or Cubs on one side and Astros or Jays on the other would be cool.

Exit, pursued by Yogi Berra (WilliamC), Tuesday, 6 October 2015 12:58 (nine years ago)

shouldn't we all be rooting for Cards vs Yankees?!?!??!!?

1998 ball boy (Karl Malone), Tuesday, 6 October 2015 13:24 (nine years ago)

hell no!

Bee OK, Tuesday, 6 October 2015 14:03 (nine years ago)

I think the Cubs have the better lineup and the Pirates have the way better bullpen. While you got to lean that Arrietta has had an amazing season, Cole has been really good. Only thing about the Cubs lineup is that I could see someone getting into the zone and getting 18 Ks against them as while patient they swing and miss a ton.

earlnash, Tuesday, 6 October 2015 22:56 (nine years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

gtfoh thats awesome

panettone for the painfully alone (mayor jingleberries), Wednesday, 7 October 2015 18:57 (nine years ago)

sean rodriguez is starting at 1st, which seems...bold

slothroprhymes, Wednesday, 7 October 2015 19:59 (nine years ago)

the only thing alvarez does well is hit homers -- he is historically awful at playing first base -- and arrieta has allowed two homers since mid-june. plus he's 2-for-17 lifetime against arrieta.

no doubt he'll be given a chance to break up the perfect game as a pinch hitter at some point

mookieproof, Wednesday, 7 October 2015 20:19 (nine years ago)

#elbowtober

but hey! maybe sean rod will get heated and scream that someone's a maricon again.

slothroprhymes, Wednesday, 7 October 2015 20:26 (nine years ago)

(to be fair regarding that incident when sean was a ray, jonny gomes does bring it out in people [because he's an asshole] and will not be anywhere in the building - unless the pirates and royals make the world series, which would be entertaining!)

slothroprhymes, Wednesday, 7 October 2015 20:31 (nine years ago)

sean rodriguez has done amazing for a career .228/.295/.371 (.666 OPS!) hitter

panettone for the painfully alone (mayor jingleberries), Wednesday, 7 October 2015 21:36 (nine years ago)

options are somewhat limited with the cubs having already murdered jung-ho kang

Clint Hurdle on why Sean Rodriguez starts at 1st for the Pirates for the first time since July 21: "We're putting our best pitcher on the mound. Want to put our best defensive team behind him."

skateboards are the new combover (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 7 October 2015 22:10 (nine years ago)

pirates fans could have dug deeper by saying he pays for grindr but whatever

admirable and somewhat unexpected restraint by that fanbase tbh

slothroprhymes, Wednesday, 7 October 2015 23:56 (nine years ago)

good start

mookieproof, Thursday, 8 October 2015 00:13 (nine years ago)

@JeffPassan
Jake Arrieta has thrown 23 pitches through two innings. Nineteen Ks. His fastball is sitting 95-96, T97. His cutter is untouchable. Yikes.

Is 19 Ks in 23 pitches a record?

Andy K, Thursday, 8 October 2015 00:46 (nine years ago)

time for some hockey

mookieproof, Thursday, 8 October 2015 00:51 (nine years ago)

skateboards are the new combover (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 8 October 2015 00:59 (nine years ago)

it looks so simple.

Van Horn Street, Thursday, 8 October 2015 01:01 (nine years ago)

so the playoffs /are/ turning you into a remarkably profane version of bee OK

slothroprhymes, Thursday, 8 October 2015 01:04 (nine years ago)

remarkably profane? how skittish of you, baby

skateboards are the new combover (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 8 October 2015 01:05 (nine years ago)

nah dude 'twas a compliment m/l

since you asked, tho, arrieta last gave up 3 runs july 25, when your true nemesis threw a no-no just before getting traded

slothroprhymes, Thursday, 8 October 2015 01:07 (nine years ago)

Kershaw was nearly invincible last season, dominated for six innings in two starts against the Cards in the postseason, and blew both games in the seventh. So there's hope for the Pirates. Sort of.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Thursday, 8 October 2015 01:18 (nine years ago)

Can't watch this. Stupid Leafs/Canadiens.

clemenza, Thursday, 8 October 2015 01:21 (nine years ago)

my god, that looked like a fly to short rf off the bat

skateboards are the new combover (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 8 October 2015 01:23 (nine years ago)

jake can only pitch game 3 vs the cards?

skateboards are the new combover (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 8 October 2015 01:24 (nine years ago)

over/under till a cub gets drilled: 0.2 innings, taking the under

slothroprhymes, Thursday, 8 October 2015 01:31 (nine years ago)

There were two called strike threes in that inning that were four inches off the plate according to the pitch tracker. Like Arrieta needs the help.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Thursday, 8 October 2015 01:36 (nine years ago)

Manfred gave the order to keep the games under 3:00

skateboards are the new combover (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 8 October 2015 01:44 (nine years ago)

So this is what the next 7 years of Cubs domination will look like?

Van Horn Street, Thursday, 8 October 2015 01:48 (nine years ago)

i smell a couple Buc runs here, honest

skateboards are the new combover (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 8 October 2015 01:53 (nine years ago)

Cubs will only win in odd years, vhs

skateboards are the new combover (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 8 October 2015 01:53 (nine years ago)

Not very "balletic," short.

Andy K, Thursday, 8 October 2015 01:55 (nine years ago)

Andy K, Thursday, 8 October 2015 01:56 (nine years ago)

Van Horn Street, Thursday, 8 October 2015 01:57 (nine years ago)

well Cards get the gift of just one game vs this fucker

skateboards are the new combover (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 8 October 2015 01:57 (nine years ago)

Exit, pursued by Yogi Berra (WilliamC), Thursday, 8 October 2015 02:08 (nine years ago)

That double play in the sixth was a killer. The Pirates look done, so why not start a fight I guess.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Thursday, 8 October 2015 02:08 (nine years ago)

johnny crunch, Thursday, 8 October 2015 02:10 (nine years ago)

Will they make Arrieta pay for the SB?

Andy K, Thursday, 8 October 2015 02:13 (nine years ago)

Not crazy familiar with the unwritten rules of the NL, but I feel like plunking the opposing teams ace is beyond a dick move.

AKA Thermo Thinwall (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Thursday, 8 October 2015 02:15 (nine years ago)

First "balletic," now "citadel" from Darling

Andy K, Thursday, 8 October 2015 02:17 (nine years ago)

Screw unwritten rules when down four in an elimination game against an ace who has plunked two, I guess.

Andy K, Thursday, 8 October 2015 02:19 (nine years ago)

aaaaand another one.

Van Horn Street, Thursday, 8 October 2015 02:19 (nine years ago)

Double play that is.

Van Horn Street, Thursday, 8 October 2015 02:19 (nine years ago)

Was he plunked because he hit two guys tho? Neither seemed intentional at all to me. Felt like he was getting beaned for just pitching really well.
