ok, it's conventional wisdom (sorta) that what's holding back the phillies is larry bowa. i still kinda love him b/c of his connection to the 1980 phillies ... but maybe his detractors are right?

me gusta los felipes! nah, if the phils can't make waves this year, then bowa's goose is cooked. wagner's a huge pick up. i mean, they might have snagged the wild card last year w/ a competent closer (ummm...like urbina?), but wagner's money. i would wager he's good for at least +5 wins.

...though burrell has to pick it up, too.

yeah, wagner WAS a good pick-up. but shit, just by not having JOSE MESA back the phillies bullpen improved.

dunno whether bowa will be gone in mid-may ... that depends on how well they do, doesn't it? then again, all those bowa phillies teams have had that history of fading down the stretch -- e.g., the collapse to the marlins last year was INEXCUSABLE. if the phillies were owned by steinbrenner, bowa would've been history for that ALONE.

From what I heard from Bowa during the World Series, he'll be the shining star of that entire group of remedial misfits (aside from Peter Gammons, who could start speaking gibberish & still be the most respectable analyst behind that desk). Please note that I'll say the same thing re: Bobby V's tenure @ ESPN, & he's an asshat.

I like to draw a line between PG in print & PG in person. Even if he's saying the same things in person, it just sounds better. Tho, yeah, Twinkies over Cubbies is a bit alskiua8alki1ls.
