Bee OK, Monday, 3 October 2016 01:51 (nine years ago)

The Hon. J. Piedmont Mumblethunder (Dr Morbius), Monday, 3 October 2016 02:09 (nine years ago)

I think you only get that score above if Joaquín Andújar is starting.

earlnash, Monday, 3 October 2016 02:15 (nine years ago)

Rooting Mets so the Cubs can destroy them.

Immediate Follower (NA), Monday, 3 October 2016 02:46 (nine years ago)

rooting mets, voting giants because lol ofc

qualx, Monday, 3 October 2016 03:02 (nine years ago)

So what would Mets trio be against Cubs game 1-3? I'm figuring this would be game 1 through 3 for Giants.

Cueto, Shark & Bumgarner

earlnash, Monday, 3 October 2016 03:10 (nine years ago)

Andy K OTM

If Mets win the starting 3 is probably Colon, Lugo/Gsellman, Syndergaard

Michael F Gill, Monday, 3 October 2016 03:52 (nine years ago)

Spottie, Tuesday, 4 October 2016 16:59 (nine years ago)

I kinda want the Giants to win so the Cubs/Giants game is in primetime on Monday and I can go to the Dodgers/Nats game with some cheap ass tickets for a game at noon nobody can go to.

carthago delenda est (mayor jingleberries), Tuesday, 4 October 2016 18:27 (nine years ago)

logically flawless.

obv i want the Mets to win, but i won't be crushed if they lose... because this is... not the actual team?

The Hon. J. Piedmont Mumblethunder (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 5 October 2016 01:08 (nine years ago)

i had no idea the Mets were this beat up.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 5 October 2016 01:12 (nine years ago)

no? it's been in da baseball news

The Hon. J. Piedmont Mumblethunder (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 5 October 2016 01:13 (nine years ago)

i believes 5 of tomorrow night's 8 position players were not on the Opening Day roster, and i certainly hadn't heard of half the pitching staff last spring.

The Hon. J. Piedmont Mumblethunder (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 5 October 2016 01:19 (nine years ago)

i knew they were beat up, i just didn't know they were as beat up as that.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 5 October 2016 01:21 (nine years ago)

sort of sad for their fans after last year.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 5 October 2016 01:21 (nine years ago)

not that sad so far

The Hon. J. Piedmont Mumblethunder (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 5 October 2016 01:27 (nine years ago)

lol, that's true but i think you know what i mean.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 5 October 2016 01:38 (nine years ago)

sure, it's too bad deGrom, Matz and Harvey aren't around, but when they all blew past their seasonal innings peaks last year, it wasn't hard to imagine what could happen.

and Wright has been in a scarily fragile state for a couple years.

The Hon. J. Piedmont Mumblethunder (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 5 October 2016 01:41 (nine years ago)

this kind of situation has a knack of forging team spirit that being said.

Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 5 October 2016 02:22 (nine years ago)

i'll be happy if forges 8 scoreless innings by Thor tomorrow

The Hon. J. Piedmont Mumblethunder (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 5 October 2016 02:37 (nine years ago)

MadBum time!

Bee OK, Wednesday, 5 October 2016 02:38 (nine years ago)

carthago delenda est (mayor jingleberries), Wednesday, 5 October 2016 03:53 (nine years ago)

these guys are as good as you would like aside from Kershaw, but they're mortal

The Hon. J. Piedmont Mumblethunder (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 5 October 2016 04:02 (nine years ago)

duda-less

mookieproof, Wednesday, 5 October 2016 15:01 (nine years ago)

Robert Gsellman is on the roster over Seth Lugo. The Mets had discussed adding one of either Gsellman or Lugo to their roster, and, should they advance, are even considering starting Gsellman in Game 1 of the NLDS. Gsellman would likely only pitch in an emergency, however.

@AdamRubinESPN
Giants reporters expecting Johnny Cueto to close if Madison Bumgarner goes, say, seven innings and departs with a lead.

The Hon. J. Piedmont Mumblethunder (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 5 October 2016 21:03 (nine years ago)

ha no trust in that bullpen

Spottie, Wednesday, 5 October 2016 21:05 (nine years ago)

@AdamRubinESPN
Here is the Mets lineup for Wednesday's wild-card game against the Giants: Reyes 3B, Cabrera SS, Cespedes LF, Granderson CF, TJ Rivera 2B, Bruce RF, R Rivera C, Loney 1B, Syndergaard RHP. The only wrinkle is T.J. Rivera hitting before Jay Bruce, which separates lefties.

Lucas Duda will be back on the roster if the Mets advance to the NLDS. Terry Collins and the staff just didn't see the value in having Duda active for the wild-card game once it was determined James Loney would start, since Duda does not have pinch-hitting experience and would likely prompt Giants manager Bruce Bochy to insert a lefty reliever anyway.

The Hon. J. Piedmont Mumblethunder (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 5 October 2016 21:07 (nine years ago)

NoTimeBeforeTime, Thursday, 6 October 2016 03:11 (nine years ago)

imho tep (sanskrit), Thursday, 6 October 2016 03:21 (nine years ago)

No shame in getting Bumgarnered.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Thursday, 6 October 2016 03:21 (nine years ago)

The Cubs lineup is not the Mets (no offense). Bumgarner might strike out 15 against Chicago, but that Giant bullpen is not a strength like earlier years.

earlnash, Thursday, 6 October 2016 03:22 (nine years ago)

sorry mets fans woulda been a different game w healthy roster

Spottie, Thursday, 6 October 2016 03:23 (nine years ago)

crushing year for the Mets, great year for the ReplaceMets

congrats Giants, may you get massacred by the Cubs

The Hon. J. Piedmont Mumblethunder (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 6 October 2016 03:23 (nine years ago)

(i don't know the score)

Van Horn Street, Thursday, 6 October 2016 03:37 (nine years ago)

Heck of a game. Mets should be in the discussion for next year too.

earlnash, Thursday, 6 October 2016 03:45 (nine years ago)

Bumgarner the first pitcher ever with two elimination-game shutouts--surprised at first, but quickly realized the list of pitchers who've even started two elimination games is probably fairly small.

Mordy, Thursday, 6 October 2016 21:27 (nine years ago)

Prior to Wednesday, 100 single-elimination postseason games had been played. All of the teams in those games were good enough to get to the playoffs, and all of them used the best arms they could to avoid that last loss. Yet Syndergaard-Bumgarner beat out the combined single-season WARs of the starters in all but 13 of those matchups. It was only the sixth time that two five-plus-win pitchers had faced off in a do-or-die game, and the first since reigning Cy Young winner Barry Zito faced reigning runner-up Pedro Martínez in Game 5 of the 2003 ALDS....

Together, the two became the first starters to go seven-plus scoreless in a win-or-go-home game since John Smoltz and Jack Morris in Game 7 of the 1991 World Series — a matchup between one Hall of Famer and one guy who almost got to be one because of that game.
