inspired by checking out the stat line for alex rios. he's really living up to that 6 yr/$64 million deal!

Dustin Pedroia Robinson Cano Khalil Greene has been shockingly bad. Derek Jeter, by his standards. Michael Bourn has been brutal on offense.
― polyphonic, Saturday, 14 June 2008 20:31 (seventeen years ago)
pedroia isnt doing that bad...

― johnny crunch, Saturday, 14 June 2008 20:36 (seventeen years ago)
Pedroia isn't doing THAT bad, but you would never know he has a sub-.700 OPS from the way people talk about him.
― polyphonic, Saturday, 14 June 2008 21:00 (seventeen years ago)
How many losses will he have by mid-June?

he's been alright but even as a red sox fan i think him winning the 2B all-star vote is bullshit
― ciderpress, Sunday, 15 June 2008 01:39 (seventeen years ago)
roughly as bullshit as cap'n clutch winning the SS vote
― mookieproof, Sunday, 15 June 2008 01:44 (seventeen years ago)
Nah it's worse. There are really no good shortstop candidates in the AL (if Michael Young is your savior you are in trouble) whereas just about every regular 2B is better than Pedroia this year. Even just comparing them against one another Jeter is having a better year.

Ryan Howard
― Alex in SF, Sunday, 15 June 2008 02:29 (seventeen years ago)
^^^tied for 5th in NL HRs^^^
just saying...
― Steve Shasta, Sunday, 15 June 2008 02:46 (seventeen years ago)
OPS is under .800 though! I mean I don't see how you can possibly define a season where dude is hitting .200/.300./460 w/ almost a 100 strikeouts in 70 games as not bad no matter how many homers he's hit! Those are seriously Dave Kingman-esque stats.
― Alex in SF, Sunday, 15 June 2008 03:11 (seventeen years ago)
He definitely started slow, but he still might end up with 50 HR. He's heating up like crazy.
― polyphonic, Sunday, 15 June 2008 05:00 (seventeen years ago)
felix pie?
― cankles, Sunday, 15 June 2008 07:02 (seventeen years ago)
swisher?
― bnw, Sunday, 15 June 2008 14:55 (seventeen years ago)
Howard always gets better as the year goes on. His start is slow by his usual standards, but I'd be surprised if he doesn't have a near-.900 OPS by year's end.
Ichiro? (sub-.300 average, nothing but singles) Thome? (three true outcomes, .219 average)
― NoTimeBeforeTime, Sunday, 15 June 2008 15:31 (seventeen years ago)
Swisher (.218/.336/.371), yeah.
Curtis Granderson (.246/.304/.446), definitely.
Ichiro (.293/.357/.386).
Ian Snell, maybe.
Obviously injuries have sapped V. Martinez but it's sort of amazing that he has not hit at least one fluke HR. And wow: .278/.332/.333.
xpost
― Andy K, Sunday, 15 June 2008 15:34 (seventeen years ago)
Ichiro's line looks bad, but his SB # and ratio is insane (29/31!!!)
― Alex in SF, Sunday, 15 June 2008 16:42 (seventeen years ago)
Brett Meyers is another terrible one. (him + swisher + k-no = all drafted by me! fanatsy QQ)

Alfonso Soriano, for getting hurt so much.
― felicity, Monday, 16 June 2008 01:01 (seventeen years ago)
carlos pena, though i can't say the dude set many precedents for having great years beyond last season (looks like an outlier maybe)
roy oswalt is having a pretty lousy year

justin verlander
― J0rdan S., Monday, 16 June 2008 01:45 (seventeen years ago)
He has been fine since May, but that April was not just surprisingly bad but awful. Leyland leaving him to rot for a six-run eighth against the White Sox didn't help.
― Andy K, Monday, 16 June 2008 01:53 (seventeen years ago)
vlad but he's warming up a bit now i think
― ciderpress, Monday, 16 June 2008 03:20 (seventeen years ago)
Ken Griffey Jr. looks to be playing his age and seems kind of bored. He might heat up, but I have a feeling he is going to end up hitting a bit over .250 with about 20 home runs unless one of his legs goes out on him.
The thing is I just don't see where the Reds could ship him off that he would actually go. The Mariners are completely in the tank, they won't call. They had trades setup with the Yankees and White Sox in past seasons and Griffey kept nixing the trade.

Hah and Howard hits another homer. Stats still look uggers to me right now, but I agree that he'll probably end up looking good by the end of the year (as will Ichiro most likely.)

AND ANOTHER haha.

hmm.... 4-1, 3.41 ERA, 1.31 WHIP (prior to today) is bad?

Is there something in the Cali water that causes baseball fans to make grand sweeping generalizations based on small stat samples? Some M. Night Shyamalan (sp) happening shit?

bedard: true!
i knew he wasn't going to save the m's, but his utter mediocrity thus far is pretty astounding.
― j.q higgins, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 13:20 (seventeen years ago)
I mean it's like last year, he was striking out EVERYONE. This year, he's been a total crapshoot. Very odd, dare I say a little suspicious.
― diamondboxx, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 02:32 (seventeen years ago)
Why suspicious?

Oh -- Edgar Renteria is "on pace" to have 10 doubles by the end of the year. He's also on pace to botch 50 grounders he "makes most nights."

What is surprising about Todd Helton? Dude's OLD!
