The league has auto-renewed everyone's team, so you shouldn't have to do anything.

We have some fresh meat this year, as we are welcoming mr NA as our newest GM (you should have an invite in your yahoo email)! If anyone doesn't think they'll be able to rejoin this year, let me know so NA can have the option of taking a team over or starting from scratch.

Draft has been set for March 26th, at 4pm EST.

Am willing to move the draft time if it's a problem for enough people.
Same stats/roster set-up as last year. Tho, if anyone has a suggestion to try something new, I'm all ears.

As always, the keeper rules:
• total of 5 keepers
• 2 of which must be 27, 28 or 29 yrs old
• another 2 players 26 or under
• one final keeper that can be either (basically anyone under the age of 30)
• age is based on that year's opening date (April 2, this year)
• for a player to be keep-eligible he must have been drafted on draft day by your team or traded to you by a team that drafted him. that means:
• free agent/waiver pick-ups cannot be kept
• if you have less than 5 keepers, you will get an extra draft pick at the end of the draft.

Last year's draft results are here, if you want to confirm who you can-and-cannot keep: https://archive.fantasysports.yahoo.com/archive/mlb/2016/47766/draftresults

I think that covers it!

is it me? because i can change!

Mad Piratical (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 8 February 2017 14:43 (eight years ago)

so if sanskrit doesn't change his mind, his available keepers would include: Manny Machado (24), Kole Calhoun (29), Jorge Soler (23), Matt Harvey (28), Carlos Rodon (24), Corey Dickerson (27), Lance McCullers (23)
NA – let me know if you'd want to take over "Don't Stop Blyleven".

Mad Piratical (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Thursday, 9 February 2017 15:34 (eight years ago)

hmmm as tempting as having machado is i think i'd rather start from scratch with my own team. again, i expect to get destroyed this season (at least).

na (NA), Thursday, 9 February 2017 15:56 (eight years ago)

i forget, are predraft trades allowed? all are eligible keepers of SABATHIAS THEATER but cuz of intolerable ageist discrimination i CANNOT keep one (1) of:

STORY, TREVOR (24)
HARPER, BRYCE (24)
SEAGER, COREY (22)

would need a 27-8-or-9 year old; pref starting pitcher but other offers considered ~

johnny crunch, Saturday, 11 February 2017 17:46 (eight years ago)

i think we decided against it since A) not everyone pays full attention over the off season, B) there is no opportunity for people to vote against trades like there are through yahoo and C) it adds another place where i'd have to cross-check everything, whereas yahoo has a record of all in-season trades

Mad Piratical (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Saturday, 11 February 2017 18:44 (eight years ago)

o word ok, i didnt recall a vote or some decision abt it

johnny crunch, Saturday, 11 February 2017 20:30 (eight years ago)

noticed something about the phrasing in the post that i never noticed before... if a player is drafted, dropped, and picked up, are they eligible to be kept? i've always kept an (extremely unwieldy and pain in the ass) spreadsheet that tracked all of the drops to note who's "keepable", wondering if i didn't need to do that...

(i still have the one from last season i can share if anyone wants)

why ruin a good tradition? (Will M.), Tuesday, 14 February 2017 00:11 (eight years ago)

i'm not sure how the filters work when sharing a google sheet... if you are able to use them, then you should filter by "last team" (if there was a trade, i would've updated it there). the "keeper" column has either A, B, or blank: A means keepable and under 27, B means keepable and 27-29, blank means not keepable (was at some point dropped, or is too old)

disclaimer as always: the data i pulled for age has been shown to be incorrect in the past, i try to fix it as much as i can every year, but double-check those birthdays!

why ruin a good tradition? (Will M.), Tuesday, 14 February 2017 00:14 (eight years ago)

Grabbing spot starters for the final few days of the season has completely backfired for me so far ...

Had to grab spot starters throughout the last month to make up for several simultaneous DL stints. Boosted the counting stats -- no hope for the rate stats -- to go from eighth to fifth. Probably made more moves this year than in all previous years combined.

Team evidently led the league in doubles that didn't plate anyone -- first in XBH, second in SLG, seventh in RBI.

Andy K, Monday, 2 October 2017 13:58 (seven years ago)

You killed it in team transactions!

Mad Piratical (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 2 October 2017 16:52 (seven years ago)

my draftees were either disappointed, injured, or suspended. except for the excellent work by my SPs -- deGrom, Carrasco, and CarMart. I got very lucky on the waiver wire with Severino and Alex Wood. which is why in my pitching stats i had all 11s or 10s (except for sv+hold.) the less said about my terrible offense the better.

nomar, Monday, 2 October 2017 17:02 (seven years ago)

disappointING, not disappointed. though there was a lot of disappointment to go around.

nomar, Monday, 2 October 2017 17:02 (seven years ago)

Thanks you to Thermo and j.crunch for an exciting stretch run. And special thanks to Thermo for his great job as commish.

It was a middling year for me, the pitchers turned it up a notch in the second half but my offense never really got going. I'm feeling OK about my keeper options for next year though. Now that I'm losing Kershaw to the over-30 crowd I'll have to stop using my pitching as a crutch and figure out how to draft a decent offense.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Monday, 2 October 2017 17:19 (seven years ago)

my offense was def my strong suit all yr

pitching was gerry rigged together esp after arrieta & roark disappointed early and often; erv santana, keuchel & rich hill were huge, & then acquiring jimmy nelson and archer in separate trades was juust enough

Mad Piratical (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:48 (seven years ago)

Here is the link to what I hope is the updated spreadsheet. Since I did this super late, the dates are a little buggy on drops (made it 2018, oops, but it's irrelevant really) and Yahoo has changed the formatting on some names so PLEASE double-check that you didn't actually drop a player you're keeping. E.g. "A.J. Ramos" became "AJ Ramos" in the system and i'm using vlookup here.

LMK if there are any corrections, questions, etc.!

oh weird. doesn't seem like he'll actually be batting much, does it?

na (NA), Wednesday, 14 February 2018 21:58 (seven years ago)

we could just have an honour rule where if you draft pitching ohtani, only you are allowed to pick up hitting ohtani? far from ideal, but he presents a unique challenge (i think the best would just be if you could start him as a batter OR hitter each day, but yahoo fucked that right up)

flippy bard (Will M.), Friday, 16 February 2018 16:33 (seven years ago)

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Monday, 26 February 2018 18:26 (seven years ago)

I don’t mind the idea of an honour rule with Ohtani. Since he’s supposed to be a more effective pitcher - maybe give whoever drafts him as such five rounds to add him as a hitter before all bets are off?
