Gotta give Jeter credit that rules

i think i first heard about kim ng like 15 years ago and people were suggesting that she was qualified for a gm job back then. this is great.

it's pretty cool! but also she is going to be just another GM who refuses to spend money on winning because winning doesn't matter

GMs don't control the budget iirc

Can't root for Jeter but good for her, this is well deserved.

four years pass...

my sister casually mentioned that one of her new neighbors is Kim Ng

We talked a lot about her on the Marlins thread or the Hot Stove thread a couple seasons back.

Always felt like she got short shrift, she was effectively demoted by the Marlins' asshole owner after she constructed a playoff team with one of the lowest payrolls in the game ($68M, #20 in MLB, 2023 avg was $101M)

tough to succeed under certain ownership scenarios (marlins/pirates/rockies/a's) and then (nationals/white sox/angels . . . orioles?) i mean even our beloved Captain bailed on the marlins

but it's always instructive to see who (like ben fucking cherington) gets multiple chances while kim ng is left to run a women's league

see also dave_dombrowski.jpg (i mean, okay, but has there ever been an executive afforded so much money and resources to be going forever all-in yet won just two titles in 30 years)
